This trail was beautiful. We got to the trailhead at about 2pm and it was more than enough time to make it to lost lake and back before the sun went down. Bring layers. It’s very windy at the lake and in the valley where you park/walk to the trailhead. Spikes would have been great, but we survived without them. The snow was slick and packed down in most places. Know that if you step off the trail you will probably sink knee-deep. Learned my lesson a few times.

Found micro spikes left on the trail on 1/26/20. Message me if you think they may be yours.

Sketchy drive, middle of nowhere, amazing views. The buttes are impressive. Less poop and people in winter.

Nice and easy trail for a Sunday. Got to the trailhead about 9:30/10 and there were a couple spots left, but leaving around 1, and it was full plus cars parked on the road. Icy and snowy for most of the hike except the very top, so spikes a must. But the trail wasn’t too icy for a much good boy.

great trail with great views. Upper parts are icy, highly recommend traction devices. there's an open area in the middle where it's easy to lose the trail just be aware and you'll be fine.

Great afternoon snowshoeing adventure with a visiting friend. It was a Sunday, arrived 1pm to trail and parking close to the end of the road before the hike to the trail head. We stopped a couple times and the way to the lake is flat or uphill, but totally manageable. Good snowpack, very windy by the lake but calm, mostly sunny otherwise. Great views where we turned around. To get there, once you get to the lake, go left on unmarked trail (follow others tracks) that follows perimeter of the lake. Once past camp site 5, keep left and look up. Beautiful!

This is a great short but moderately difficult hike. Pretty steep elevation gain on the way to the lake, but all downhill on the way back :) snow was packed enough to warrant spikes, but still powdery enough for snow shoes.

Hiked about 5 miles in and back. Microspikes would be highly recommended but I did it without. Just be careful and sure footed.

As of late January 2020 there is limited parking on the road near the trailhead. Scarcely trafficked on a Saturday late morning, probably because one needs at least microspikes to get 1.75mi to the junction, but after that one needs snowshoes. I tried to press to Finch Lake but kept falling through the snow which was waist deep after the first junction. It hasn’t really snowed in close to a month so if it’s still this bad, I can only imagine it won’t be truly Hike-able until July

Not too bad, really easy trail. There were some patches of ice, I did take a tumble on said ice, but other than that it was good and easy.
