it's an ok trail to crowded

What a beautiful day for a hike. Very shaded and cold. We went Saratoga Gap to Castle Rock. The boulders/ rock formations are so beautiful especially when it is covered in moss. We didn’t get to climb on Goat Rock because there were already people there. A few steep incline and there are places where you have to climb over boulders during this trail. It was busy at the start. Ran into a few groups/couples. A few rock climbers also visible.

Very crowded but that is because the rocks are incredible. Views are also amazing. You do climb through & over rocks on parts of the trail. Not crazy climbing (at all), but some older visitors seemed to struggle a bit. Lot of families there. Some of them did the small loop and went down to the first look out point and then came back up. That gives you most of the benefits without climbing any rocks. Bathroom at trailhead and at Castle Rock. Definitely worth going.

Kicker

Hiked this trail alone. Plenty of on street parking behind Target. You know you've arrived when you start seeing the line up of cars parked along the side of the street. Well marked trail that is in a loop with an off shoot at the top. Going up to the left is steeper and narrower, which I prefer to climb that way. The offshoot to the top of the mountain is closed from February 1 - May 1 for mating season for the big horn sheep. The Offshoot is a wide trail with a nice climb and good views of the valley.

Too many views of the malls below but a great hike. The gate that gets closed is at the top of the hike.

This was a really great day hike! amazing views. First time up here took it slow and good thing, really enjoyed it out here. There is a picnic area before starting the hike so if you want to pack a lunch.

It’s also called the “Mike Schuller” trail. Does anyone know if it’s named after the former Basketball coach?

Snowshoed in on January 1st. Not a lot of snowpack yet. Probably could have hiked in without snowshoes but still was a very nice hike. Staying at Rob's Hut. Great destination.

It’s a good workout loop. Scenic overlooks here and there. When going up, choose between very rocky, narrow, vertical path to the left and generally wide steep path to the right. Much easier to come down on the right. If you go up before February 1st, definitely take the spur out to the peak.

So beautiful!!! The views are beyond pretty, and there are points where you can see all the way to the ocean. There are some points where you have to scramble over rocks, but I love that. Not to mention the rock formations are stunning—little caves and divots etched into giant boulders by years of running water! Saw some really cool mushrooms, and turkey vultures wheeling over the valley. The hike itself isn’t too hard, as there aren’t many places where you’re headed straight uphill for very long.

I hike this trail 2-3 times a week in cooler season and this is by far my favorite in the valley for a quick hour loop workout. Go left at the start to go exactly 1 mile up at a steep incline and take the 1.5 mile steady grade down for a great workout. The gate is open until feb then closed for a few months for bighorn mating season. Take advantage of the open gate now for another mile up and back.

My first hike in the desert. Spectacular views and a good workout.

About 2 feet of snow average took about 2 1/2 hours to reach the summit at an easy pace catch snow shoes were more than adequate. Start early bring a parka check conditions can get real windy with the correct attire it’s totally awesome. Follow the safety of the snow drifts and not the trail

Great hike, with beautiful views, cool rock formations, and lots of moss.

Depending the trail you go through will determine the level of difficulty, I was able to take a pretty good incline up and took a good rocky incline down, being very careful for people coming back down. Overall a good hike with always a good view.

Great trail, always pretty heavily trafficked. Great views from the top, pretty steep both ways, but first timers definitely should start right to left, much slower incline, then steep descent. Left to right you’ll go straight up - butt burner, then a slower downhill descent.
