Fun hike! My 4 year old loved this hike but it definitely gave me anxiety watching him maneuver over all of the rocks on the trail. We made it to the petroglyphs (you could hike farther) but that was such a cool and unique experience! I saw lots of people with kids but I would 100% make sure they have hiking boots, and small dogs may struggle, due to the rocky-ness of the trail. The waterfall is so neat to reach but may be a challenge for some due to the incline of large rocks. Overall, we had a great time on this trail and will do it again (on a weekday! way less crowded).

I enjoy this hike. It’s tucked away in a neighborhood, and the inclines make it a moderate hike. The distance on this trail is good which makes it a productive hike. It’s also nice “walking to something” vs walking aimlessly.

Great hike with beautiful views! Accessing the trailhead from the South (via 238) will take you down a fairly rugged road. 4WD and/or high clearance is recommended for a few rocky and deeply rutted sections. Alternatively, the trailhead can be accessed from the North/Northwest via W Riggs Rd. This route is less technical and mostly sand. That said, service is spotty here and you should be cautious of Google/Apple maps guiding you off Riggs too early and leading you astray (from I-10 I took S Estrella Parkway->W Willis->S Rainbow Valley->W Riggs all the way to the trailhead).

Really, this was the perfect hike for us. We went up two steep inclines (moderate work), had a couple nice walks along ridge lines (easy) and a nice hike back to complete the loop. My 5-year-old handled it brilliantly. My 3-year-old handled about half of it, and then I hiked with him on my back (which is why this was both a moderate and easy hike for me). Pair this hike with warpaint trail and/or any of the other nearby trails and you can make this hike longer. Stay on the trail, there is a lot of cholla.

Great hike. Pretty easy to lose the trail in a few places so be careful. Just look for the piles of stacked rocks.

Hiked this trail on 1/24/2020. Great hike, challenging, with breathtaking views. The trail was very icy for the first 2/3 of the way. We used trekking poles and traction devices on our hiking boots and still slipped a couple of times on the way down. Nothing too serious, but definitely watch your step, especially when going downhill. We started the trail at 11 and got back a little before 4, taking a 25 min break at Horseshoe Mesa and some short stops along the way to drink water and take pictures.

Easy and beautiful hike. We enjoyed it!

Beautiful loop with a few fun side trips.

the drive to the parking spot is a gravel road that can have water running across it at times. it can be difficult to get down the road and across the water in a small car. the trail is flat at first and then gradually gets steeper until becoming very steep the last half mile before the cave. the trail is also very narrow at the top so passing people can be challenging.

we were looking for a hike that was challenging, and had a little bit of a climb. we walked out to Lone Tree point and then decided to take Cave Trail back to the car. we should have followed Peralta Trail back down instead. Cave Trail was very difficult and several times we lost the trail. there were also certain parts where we had to sit and Scoot down the slide rock. I would do this Trail again after more experience on other trails but I feel like this was above our skill level.

I’ve done this hike weekly since it opened. Love the ups and downs for intensity and recovery heart rate. Very busy during high season in mornings and weekends. Some construction happening nearby and workers cars are parked on road where overflow parking occurs for hikers. Keep that in mind especially during weekday mornings and Saturday’s. Great views and wildlife.

Nice and easy trail, great for hiking, biking, or an easy trail run. Great views of the mountains, and has a very secluded feel to it. The eastern half of the loop has limited tree cover and is a very dry trail, in great condition. The western loop has much more tree cover and is a little sloppy with mud and some lingering snow from a storm over a week ago.

Find the cave off the trail about 15 mins to the right. It’s worth it and even better than the end of this trail.

trail was good for first mile up for dogs. would not reccomend the last part for smaller dogs. We didn't go the last part of the trail because it was too steep and you have to cross a road. the road is busier on weekends with traffic. fun hike and we got some good exercise while enjoying the nature and people on trail with us. go before sunset as this trail is blocked from the sun part of the way.

Wife and I hiked this trial 25 Jan, beautiful weather (Mid 60’s). Overall very much enjoyed this trail and will hike again. I would rate it easy to moderate (which leaning towards moderate). Perhaps 80% of the trial is pretty easy with the remaining 20% moderate. We walked the trail clockwise which means we ascended the aggressive grade (just after you turn off Hope trail unto Ruiz), So counter clockwise might be easier. For the most part you are without shade, but the wash (Coyote wash trail) offers several escapes from the sun. The main trial (hope) which is more of an unimproved road was busy but once we veered off to the side trail saw no one. Only wildlife was birds. Nice views and I really liked the changing terrain as we hiked.

Good trail. If you take Bursera up, pay attention to your map. The Gila trail isn’t marked up there and it’s easy to miss

The abundance of Saguaros is magnificent! Easy trail, kid friendly, and great parking availability. I went on a Saturday and there were quite a few other hikers out. Watch for horse poo.
