Easy, quick trail. Great for kids.

I lived right next to Creamers Field and walked the trails many times, year round. Even in the winter it is walkable and well marked and maintained. It’s a popular trail so there will almost always be some people there too but the trails are big and extensive so it’s not like you’re ever crowded really. Mosquitoes are absolutely killer in the summer. The open parts of the trail leading to the entrance of the boreal and wetlands trails are great spots for shooting the aurora when it’s out.

I was lucky enough to live in the apartments right in front of the field so I went out regularly throughout the year. The trails are well marked and well maintained year-round and excellent for bringing kids. One caveat, your view can be limited in some parts due to trees and brush when walking around the lake so make sure to take care- I rounded a corner once and almost walked right into a moose butt! It’s a really lovely easy trail.

I’ve been to Independence Mine a few times now. Once I went in the middle of May but there was still quite a lot of snow. You couldn’t park up by the buildings, you had to hike up the road a ways through the very slushy snow. That said, it is still really beautiful and well worth the trip in the snow- just be prepared. I’ve also been in July and September and it was gorgeous- the fireweed was out in abundance. It’s still windy and a bit chilly so definitely bring a jacket (it’s on a mountain so don’t let the weather in town fool you). I went with my 4&5 year old kids and my mother in law and we all managed the trail around the Mine just fine. It is a little steep in some places, so some caution is needed but overall a must-see!

Did the trail in Aug 2019. Effort to reward ratio is max in this one as this one is an easy hike with breathtaking views. I was awed by the beaver dams. These fellas are so hardworking and build these amazing dams. There are multiple viewpoints with amazing views. Loved this one.

Did the trail in Aug 2019. Alaska had two major wildfires at that times and smoke was almost everywhere. Due to this the views were not the best, But we still enjoyed the hike. There were warning signs for a mamma bear and her cubs, but we never felt unsafe as the trail was heavily trafficked.

Excellent hike. Trail crampons gets you most of the way as the trail can be a little slick. Towards the top is where snowshoes are needed. great views.

I went up 20 Jan 2020 for a quick hike. MLK was free day in the park!! Beautiful trail and great views! The trail is snow packed all the way up and I made it with just standard hiking boots with no issues. I did use Yak Tracks on the way down and would suggest some sort of micro-spikes for the steep sections. My Garmin Instinct clocked an 800' elevation gain so i'm not sure if the main description is correct or my watch but the hike didn't seem too bad though it is obviously steep in spots, I do find the 1600' may be an exaggeration. All in all a great day out and helped to subdue the cabin fever!!

Hit a couple icy spots but with the ice cleats, we made it through. So beautiful in the winter time in the mornings!

Nice up and down. Lighted for safety in winter.

Excellent short winter trail. Nice views along the trail and at the two viewing points.

Decent snow conditions. Not the best glide, but not sticky either. Didn't see anyone else on the loop until I was back at the car packing up.

Views are amazing at the top. Tons of berries and it is thick on the way up in the summer. Definitely worth the reward. Would do it again.

Really cool trail, can take a shuttle to the trail entrance and end at the Alyeska Resort if you choose. You get a good look at the rainforest, some awesome views of a creek. Would do again.

Decent trail, once you get to the braided river it can be confusing on what exactly to do, but you must keep on keeping’ on to get close to the glacier.

Followed the other peoples trail. Went straight up and then down. It was just over 2km. But what a fantastic view! Definitely need ice cleats since the path gets steep.

Hiked this trail back in September. Easy hike and pretty epic views. Sad to see how much it has retreated and crazy to imagine the ice being next to the viewing platforms just a few years back. Not sure if they will keep chasing the ice with viewing platforms or just let the ice get farther away from view. Would love to go back and do the big hike here but ran out of time. Also sucky that they don't allow dogs here.

I’ve done this trail many times, I love the wood walkways and the beautiful scenery and wildlife. Always always always many mosquitos here in the summer so be prepared.

the owners put no effort into this trail or guided tour. it is basically a monopoly for one of the glaciers and they know that they don't have to do much to get money from tourists. the lady at the counter was also not knowledgeable at all, making us not wanting to do the tour. do at your own risk.

Pleasantly surprised by this little gem here in my hometown of Wasilla. Features a creek that runs down off the ridge. Half forested ridge hike, half Hayflats hike. Easy with good Mountain Views and a good perspective of the Hayflats, being you can just wander out there into the nothingness. Food included a granola bar.

I only recorded half this ski because I forgot to start my timer. We skiied from Glen Alps to Campbell Creek Science Center. the Middle Fort Trail had awesome snow. cover was a little bare in the canyon area around Campbell Creek and I found this to be difficult to ski. Had to share the trail with fat tire bikers in Campbell Creek Science Center so it was a little torn up.
