Great winter hike. Features a creek, beautiful mountain vistas, spruce and birch forest, as well as open hayfields. Did from Plumley to Maud just one way. About 3 miles. Trekked in snow machine tracks most of way. Wildlife included one bull moose on road by Trailhead.

Awesome riding! Some is in the forest, some on the river rock, some through the river and streams. Rewards you with an up close view of the Knik Glacier and icebergs.

Kind of lousy for hikers. It's a rutted ATV trail. Across the street is the Pinnell Mountain Trail which is way cooler.

You can drive this trail or you can hike it. If you start at the trail head you will have to hike it but if you put Mineral Creek Drive into your gps you can drive this road. You can cross the creek where the waterfall is with your car depending on your car type... I recommend something that is lifted as a low car would scrap bottom due to pot holes and large rocks. Unfortunately, part of the mountain crashed down, park your car by the Dempsey Mine sign & take an atv or walk from there for about a 1.5 miles, you will come across a large bolder that blocks the trail, if your on atv this is it for you. If you want to hike past this the trail is rocky & you maybe scrambling across the lose rock to continue, WARNING! Continuing across is dangerous, use CAUTION! Once you get past where the mountain came crashing down you are in the clear about 0.5mile until you hit the next creek & old mine site! You can walk around here or even set up camp! We camped out & had a great time! Very peaceful & quiet. There was bear droppings on the trail so be-aware of your surroundings.

This is a gravel road traveled by many different types of vehicles. This is NOT a hiking trail. If you want to get covered by dust from vehicles, go on a dry day. If you prefer to be covered in mud, go when its wet. Views are uninspiring by Alaska standards. The views are just as good walking in circles around the Safeway parking lot and you'd be safer and cleaner.

So beautiful but we couldn’t finish the trail due to a rock slide that blocked the trail. Might be possible to get through but very dangerous. On a cliff that drops approximately 80 feet down to the raging creek.

We hiked this as a family and it was absolutely amazing. The sights were so incredibly beautiful. I would love to hike it again.

This is a spectacular drive with many trails off the side abd at the end. If your vehicle has low clearance, be aware that you will have to drive through several creeks that run across the road surface, If the rail is heavy, you can get stuck on the wrong side. After 15 september, many facilities close down and, due to the remoteness, there are few facilities - so plan ahead.

Trail is actually called Purinton. Easy hike for beginners. Watch for 4-wheelers on the trail, especially on weekends.
