Hit a couple icy spots but with the ice cleats, we made it through. So beautiful in the winter time in the mornings!

Nice up and down. Lighted for safety in winter.

Hiked this trail on December 19th, it was beautiful. The start of the trail had no snow but once you get past the snow line there was about a foot or more. We ended up taking a few trails that hadn't been trafficked so there was a few spots where we were post holing but overall the trail was packed really well. Beautiful river and waterfall throughout the hike too!

Great winter hike. Features a creek, beautiful mountain vistas, spruce and birch forest, as well as open hayfields. Did from Plumley to Maud just one way. About 3 miles. Trekked in snow machine tracks most of way. Wildlife included one bull moose on road by Trailhead.

Just did a short portion. Very beautiful day for a walk

Great trail in winter after a dump of snow when everything else is impassable.

Wow. As of 12/19/19 there is a dry ground at the trailhead and the more you go up the more winter it gets. I turned around about 3 quarters of the way through due to timing with the sun going down. I'm 5'8 and I didnt expect there to be snow up to my waist about halfway up. Theres a point where the only pair of footprints I saw turned around just about when the snow gets crazy and I went on for probably another mile. Within that mile I saw lynx and moose tracks. A very cool experience regardleds and I'll be back in the summer to see the lake. To anyone who has the impression this is a uphill hike with a lot of views along the way like I thought, it's not. You have to climb uphill in a forest setting for more then half the hike. Still amazing

12/6. Icy with knee deep snow above the tree line.

Great trail! For someone who lives in Oklahoma it's a wonderful and unforgetable expereience.

Awesome little fact about this trail, it was the first road built in Alaska. Which is pretty cool if you’re into history. It is also a beautiful trail with tons of greenery and waterfalls. My favorite photo point is the washed out bridge and the waterfall beside it.

Muddy in some spots, icy in others. Overall still able to run on the trails!

Very icy, had to use ice cleats on 75% of the trail. Hiking with a dog. Loved the trait

Amazing trail. Good portion of forest in the beginning all for the view to get better and better as you keep walking toward the lake. I really liked how as of 11/18/2019 there was not a drop of snow on the ground at the beginning and it very slowly gets more and more snow covered until your walking on a snow covered trail and surrounded. The footprints stopped as soon as you get over the hill and a view of the lake before it starts going downhill, so that's also when I turned around. The whole trail gave me a vibe between Acadia, Yellowstone, and North Cascades national park all in one, if those parks were on steroids

Did this hike in the summer. Fairly easy and beautiful at the same. Some overlook spots you will come to. Ensure to go to the very top and walk around the area up there. Some great rock formations to climb on!

The first mile or so was great! But then there were several “washed out” sections of the trail due to landslides. These crossings were pretty hairy. At mile 1.8, the washout was about 30-40 feet across. It was barely passable on foot (and not possible to do so very safely, even then), but there was no way to get our bikes across it. So we had to turn around. These areas were past a sign that said “trail maintenance ends” - so I guess no one will be repairing these sections? Disappointing because it was beautiful.

Biked up to lost lake! Trail conditions were good for biking, not too muddy. Would bring toe warmers next time!
