This was a nice trail park within the city limits - it gave the feeling of an escape with the convenience of easy access. We went on this trail in Jan and we did the trail as shown as well as the offshoot around the lagoons into the Piney Grove region and then went back via the backcountry trail. All in all it was approximately 4.5 miles. The trail was well marked (and well maintained) with maps abound as well as some pavilions and benches for a rest. If you take the offshoot, there are also restrooms by the picnic area at the lagoons. The trail was great for bird watching even in winter. We saw an egret, hawk, cardinals, geese, and more. We were hoping for an alligator, but sadly were out of luck lol. The lagoons were lovely and peaceful. However, the offshoot towards Piney Grove ran right by the highway, which kind of ruined the ambiance for me. On the whole it was a conveniently located dirt/paved trail (and I bet in the spring and fall it’s even nicer) within the city. We will return for a quick escape again the future.

Great family trail easy enough for even children. Trail is clearly marked. Beautiful view of lake and a covered bridge. Trail is a loop so no backtracking needed. Dog friendly though leash is required.

Had a great time hiking this trail, not long but well worth the trip to the view!

12.02 miles, not 10.4. Definitely challenging! We did Cheaha to Adams Gap. One of my friends said the last climb broke her heart.

Great trail to take the kids on. Lots of loose rock and gravel. Took hiking shoes but probably could have just used tennis shoes. It was muddy but we expected it due to rain the previous day. Stopped at Remy’s dog park on the way out for some off leash time.

Great trail especially this time of year, a little muddy but great scenery, I love it when you can see through the forest. It has some short little waterfalls and a little bit of elevation. Would be a great family trail.

Nice trail... lots of inclines otherwise it’s a pretty easy trail. We went south on the pinhoti trail however there was the option to go north as well. South side we had 4-5 brooks to cross over. Would recommend waterproof or resistant shoes. We hiked to the highest point and to where it looked like others turned around based on the all trails mapping which was about the 2.5 mile mark. So was 5 miles in and out... you could make it longer since it’s the Pinhoti .

Great trail. Very rocky

The views of the river from this trail are incredible!

Love this trail when the Lillie’s are bloomed!

Awesome waterfalls when the water is up! There really is no trail so be prepared to get wet! Well worth the hike though!

Trail is pretty well maintained especially for the off season. Muddy in spots with a few easily avoided trees over the trail. Definitely earns its moderate rating given occasionally muddy conditions and a not insignificant elevation gain, but it was a fun, diverse afternoon hike.

Great little hike Trail is muddy and slippery in places

This is a very nicely paved trail all the way through. Just pay attention to the trail signs and you’ll be fine. Beautifully taken care of! I would definitely do this trail again.

Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail was a great choice. Only had a few hour as I travel from Montgomery to Birmingham. Great for all ages if you walk your own hike. Well marked and maintained.

Unbelievable strenuous hike. Our mileage was closer to 9 miles. In and out trail, waterfalls are beautiful. Hike out is tough, all uphill. Needed to be in better shape!

Beautiful hike even in the winter. Saw a pileated woodpecker, deer, squirrels and chipmunks. The stone cuts area is a lot of fun to explore. It had rained the day before but the majority of the trail was dry and compact. Only a few muddy places and they were easy to avoid by staying on rocks walking just off to the side. Some steep parts but not strenuous.
