Nice quick trail both on the elevation gain and descent. A lot of single track but still fun. Hiked early and got to watch the fog lift of the mountains, beautiful.

Good trail to clear the mind. There is no shade until after lightning trail section. I would recommend to pack a light lunch. Parking space only has three spots, so it’s recommended to arrive early in the morning. Lots of local hikers and dogs with owners. Oh, there are some Private Property signs and broken fences that are really confusing.

Next to no shade on this well traveled, fairly easy trail. Closer to town than I prefer but not bad if one needs a trail head for a quick outing. Crossed paths with a stuffy individual that could have definitely used an attitude check. Other than that, not a bad little hike.

Actually trail ran the Horse Lakes Trail of the Sage Hills trails. Very sunny, warm. wildflowers every where. Didn't see any rattle snakes on the trail which was relieving. The trail is in great condition and the views are great! Recommend to anyone who!!

This was a great trail to walk, run, or bike with stunning views. We started in the morning, and it warmed up quickly. It’s great that there are so many trails in the system; you can really make it as long as you’d like, but some trail markers would be very useful. Had to get about two miles in to see balsam root that wasn’t absolutely fried, but it was so beautiful once we got there. Would definitely come back either when it’s cooler or without my doggo. She prefers the shady forest! :)

Great trail! There was definitely no shade until you hit the very top of the ridge. Gave 4 stars because there are hardly any trail markers. Glad we had the All Trails app!

I would recommend a map!! there are lots of trails that wander all over the place, and even though we had a map, we still took several wrong turns and had to back track a few times. this hike is beautiful and the flowers fragrant, but it is also very exposed with no shade or relief from the sun - someone mentioned they brought an umbrella, which would have been very nice towards the end when it was super hot, we were out of water (thought 6.5L would be enough

Beautiful area! We started at Sage Hill Road and the beginning section was by far the busiest for people stopping to take pictures. but once you get past that, the crowds die down. There are a ton of trails to choose from and we started on The Gut before swapping over to the Coyote Canyon trail. Hiked a bit close to the ridge before turning back around. Easy to follow trails and with the dryness, very dusty. The gain up is very gradual and doable (I'm about your average weekend hiker). Be sure to bring plenty of water as there are no streams or shade. We opted to bring umbrellas to give us a break from the sun, which was a life saver to me.

Amazing! Balsam root is just past peak. Lupine is peak NOW! Would have loved to go up Coyote Canyon further, but the 9yo trail buddy was done.

Because to the amount of moisture in the soil there are ruts in the center of a large portion of the trail. Making decent for hikers a little dangerous. The wild flowers were beautiful however and the views were incredible.
