Moderate walk. Less than maintained trail had to navigate around fallen trees and limbs. We stopped at 2.3 miles and returned to parking area, so about 4.6 mile hike. Several switchbacks and small creek crossings. Moderate mountain views. No major heights viewing. Trail kept going past the 2.3 miles, not sure how far.

Nice moderate trail, had a lot of fun with my dog. John's review is a perfect description, with one addition. The marked trailhead parking is nearly a mile from the trailhead. I parked off the side of the road about 20 yards feet further up the road past the trailhead entrance.

Trail head off a fire trail, approximately 50 yards from a gate on Hunting Creek Rd in a sharp left turn. Trail immediately ascends and follows hunting creek until it break to the right and turns into switchbacks. Tunnels of rhododendron run through the switchbacks before leveling out slightly to the beginning of a tributary of Hunting Creek. The tributary leaches out of the ground with deep holes, swampy areas and exposed roots, so watch your footing! Past the swampy area is mostly level for a short distance before ending at the Appalachian Trail just before the AT crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway to Thunder Ridge. No scenic views, lots of small waterfalls, wildflowers in season, marked with blue blazes.
