Great day with great people. Took my ‘97 4runner with a 2.5” lift. Only encountered one deeper puddle, the rest were fine. Had a spotter in a few rock spots. Would recommend for newer off-roaders to check out:)! Trail is a bit tighter at some spots. Would like to come here with multiple vehicles some time.

Awesome off road trail. Highly recommend this to anyone wanting to dip their toe into off roading. Definitely have the means to recover yourself, especially if you go for some of the mud holes. Some spots were pretty rocky and tight for my tundra but it handled it well.

Testing the new truck's 4wd. Wouldn't have brought it here but no rain lately so no mud. Just rocks. It was a blast! The trail should be one way only. Somebody will need to reverse to get to a spot to pass. Of course, pinstripes will happen!

This was a great trail! It was our first time in our Jeep. Our Jeep is not stock it has an 18” lift and all terrain tires. I am convinced this is why we made it today. There were about 4 9”-18” deep puddles the last of which we almost got stuck. There a couple of places you can go around the puddles. I don’t think it would be good to take this trail on with a stock Jeep.or other vehicle. Have fun! Ohh we took the doors off the Jeep today... in hindsight not the best move but we had a great time. Total time was 2.5 hrs. We camped at devils backbone...which is great location!!!

Had an amazing time! First time off-roading ever!! 19 Tacoma -off road, fully stock. I got stuck in the mud once and my crawl control got me out. I was even moving past custom Wranglers and a Ram 1500. I was really surprised on how well my Tacoma operated. A few times my girlfriend spotted for me and everything was great! FYI- Completely stock off-road Tacoma!!! I did not air down my tires or anything. After I finished I drove 3 hours back to DC and everything was great. Maybe a Tacoma is just better than a Wrangler lol. I'm just saying, I passed five Wranglers, one got stuck in water, and the ram had to help it out.

Jeep Wrangler TJ with 31s and a 3 inch lift. Completed the trail easily but got stuck once. That was my fault, definitely walk the mud holes first! Only really needed 4 wheel drive for a few of the obstacles, but you can bypass most of it if you aren't equipped. You need to air down for all of the rocky trails or you'll be crawling at idle for half of the trail. I'll be back!

Our first gen VW Touareg handles this trail without too many troubles. Our only concern is the stock H/T (255/60/R17) tires, since the trail gets rocky at times. Except from that, this is a moderately easy trail on a sunny day.

I did the trail in a stock 2016 Rubicon Unlimited. Got stuck a few times and had to be winched out, but it was an absolute blast. A lot rockier than I thought it would be. Definitely don’t do this trail alone. I do however, recommend it!

Amazing trail with overall excellent road conditions as of June 4, but the upper portion of the trail closer to the southern trailhead off the Blue Ridge Parkway is severely overgrown with shrubs on both sides of the trail. Be prepared for some major paint scratching (i.e. don’t take your brand new Range Rover Velar down this trail) I did both ends of the trail (on separate day trips) on a Fifth Gen. Ford Explorer with a 2.5” lift and stock sized tires. With the lift the trail is doable even with heavier duty all season tires when the conditions aren’t muddy. The lift is a must if your stock ground clearance is anything less than 9”. Recommended 10” ground clearance if you don’t want to go around every corner worrying about undercarriage damage. Definitely worth exploring, just be prepared to do some exterior detailing when you go home!

This trail is awesome, some good moderate level rock crawling without tearing up your vehicle. Definitely doable for vehicles with 33s and up. Expect pin stripe scratches from branches all down your vehicle, but that's always expected with Jeep trails. To the 1 star rating below this that said it was closed on 3/24, the trail opens April first and closes in early January. This is what I was told by a forest ranger.

Definitely fun, bumpy, and challenging! This was a lot tougher than I anticipated however. Some puddles and rock structures seemed very intimidating. About 2-3 puddles actually came all the way up to my half doors. I drive a TJ with a 2.5" lift on 285/75r16's for height reference. (Also I went about a day after harsh rain) I would be very hesitant to bring a bone stock vehicle up this trail. From deep puddles, deep ruts, and some helacious rocks to conquer, this would be quite the impossible task. At the bare minimum you NEED upgraded/stronger tires. This trail will devour stock tires. Also a trail buddy is advised, as always. This trail is very secluded and lightly trafficked so if you get stuck or injured, you're pretty much beat. I was fortunate to never get stuck or hung up, but take the extra precaution... So in summary, *If you're looking for an aggressive challenge and have upgraded your jeep's suspension and tires, this is for you*. (Also beware the GPS, it took me down several private driveways where I had no business being, I drove 1.5 hours to get to this trail)

Mostly stock friendly, there's a couple rocky areas and mudholes that are not stock friendly. You will have pin stripes at the end. It's a good 3 hour trip. This was my second time out with HMMWVs. Trail is narrow with brush but no trees are in the way.

I was out with a group of jeepers For my 1st Ever Jeep trail run. This trail is A-blast. It is challenging but not so much to the point That is frustrating. I was the only Jeep Liberty in a group of Wranglers and had no problem running with them. On a side note though. Beware the water crossings if it's been rainy they can get rather deep... Fun but deep. Happy trails y'all.

Our '91 XJ has a 4" lift and 33" tires This trail was not very challenging for us but we chose it because we were traveling alone (no extra spotters or tow assistance) and had our 7yo kid and two dogs with us. We had a lovely trip and made it through in a 3-4 hours, while taking plenty of time to explore the creeks, puddles, and overlooks. Before we got there, there had been several days of rain, and a massive thunderstorm the night before, so the puddles were quite deep. Our XJ handled them all just fine, but there were a few I would not recommend trying in a stock vehicle; don't go right after it rains unless you have a lift! The 0.8 mile bypass/alternate trail on the north half of Bald Mountain trail was more challenging than the main trail, but not impossible (we were coming down the hill) for stock vehicles with drivers who have been wheeling before. My husband's AT&T iPhone was able to get at least one bar of cell service for most of the trip, but there's very little connectivity on the way there. Overall, this would be a fun trip for anyone who's been wheeling before, but probably not engaging enough for experienced drivers who are looking for a real challenge. Camping at Sherando Lake Recreational Park was a dream, but there are a bunch of (free) campsites with fire pits near the Southern trailhead by the Blue Ridge Parkway where we will camp if we go again. 4/5 stars, will do again. :)
