On the difficult side of moderate. The last part up to the nose along nosedive is steep.

I believe whoever rated this as a moderate trail, was mistaken. I’m not sure the definition of “moderate” is when it comes to hiking but this can’t be it! It’s pretty steep going most of the way with small breaks throughout. Not many though. You’re basically hiking up stream beds for a good portion as well. Eventually you make your way out to the Nose Dive ski trail which you then have to climb, also quite steep. But you’ve made it this far so keep going up the toll road to the visitor center. I was told by the attendant at the center that I wasn’t allowed to actually hike up to the top of the nose. I didn’t know that was the case when I started this hike. I thought coming down the trail was going to be more difficult than it was, but surprisingly I made it down in good time. Be careful!! It’s very slippery!! All in all, this is a great hike. So much variety to see and it makes for great photo ops!! Have fun and be safe!

Steeper than expected! On the harder side of moderate; took a first time (in shape) hiker with me and he was able to complete it though. Views were definitely worth it though! Would recommend.

Hassleton was an amazing trail! Made it to the top in 2 hours. We had severe storms the day before and the trail was in great shape. No mud, but basically hiking up a streambed at times. There was a stream/waterfall during most of the ascent and all you could hear was the beautiful white noise of it. So good for the soul. I found the hardest part of this hike the last little bit up the open area on the ski slope. The rest of it was pretty easy. I ended up crossing over to the Chin from the Nose and made my decent via Profanity to the Long trail. Profanity was very difficult. Going back via Hassleton would have been so much easier!

This is a lightly used trail starting near the Midway lodge and eventually emerging onto the Nosedive ski trail and then up the Toll Road to the parking lot and visitor’s center on the ridge line. The trail could use some maintenance as there was a tree down across the trail near the start and a few others that could be trimmed back. The most interesting part of the trail is the first third as the path leads up a narrow spine that falls away on each side.

Five Stars for a Moderate. Perfect day and weather for 9/6. Wouldn’t want to do this in the rain or in the Spring when water is flowing heavy down the mountain.

A more challenging, moderate hike. The first portion is very steep, then it escalates into more technical footing, rock walking, and stream crossing. An interesting and beautiful hike. Give yourself a little more time to complete this than you may have thought for 2.8 miles.

Wonderful trail from base of Stowe to upper ski runs. Would rate it more challenging than moderate. Narrow trail through the woods and crossing water several times on the way up - much nicer than climbing a ski slope. Continuing up the ski trails and connect to the Long Trail. Beautiful views along the ridge in both directions. Great hike.

This hike is rated moderate, unfortunately I could find no definition. Given that most of the "trail" is a stream bed with lots of rocks and boulders that is not my definition of moderate. Especially when the last 1/2 mile is up the beginning of a downhill ski run which has a very steep pitch naturally. The hike is beautiful nonetheless with streams along nearly the whole way. After the trail ends you can turn right and follow the toll road for about 1/4 mile to the summit. Then make sure you head down another 1/4 mile path to right of visitors center so you can get full view looking west to Lake Champlain and beyond. The views east and west from the top or near top of this hike make the trip very worthwhile. Did this hike October 13, 2017.

Definitely more challenging than I anticipated, but enjoyed it either way.

Had an absolute ball hiking this trail Saturday, May 27. The ascent was truly a moderate challenge, about an hour up keeping a good pace. And what a marvelous view from the top! Your hard work is well rewarded on this one. RECOMMENDED.

It's a nice hike up to the ski resort from Smugglers Notch State Park camping sites. Not too difficult and was a great start to our day hike.
