Directions from Jamaica, VT: Travel a half mile east on Depot Street. After the park entrance, bear right to the large parking lot. Begin on Railroad Bed Trail; trailhead is in the northwest corner by the picnic area. Hike it 2.5 miles to Cobb Brook then another mile to the Hamilton Falls. OR from the tiny burg of South Windham, travel north a mile or so on Baker Hill Road turning left (west) onto Burpee Pond Road. Take this a very short distance making another left onto West Windham Road. Note: when the road forks, bear left. This will take you to the Hamilton Natural Area and the Hamilton Falls.

The first couple of miles was a nice easy path then it gets quite a bit more intense. Enjoyed the view!

The first two miles of the trail consists of walking on a dirt road. The hiking does start until the ascent up to the falls. Waterfalls are pretty but not much water flowing. Good hike, took about two hours.

Easy 2-mile walk followed by a more intense 1 mile uphill to the falls. The falls are brilliant. Be sure to walk up to the top to see the pool. There is a ladder tied to the rock that makes it possible to take a dip in this beautiful rock bowl.

We parked near the dam at Ball Mountain Rd and crossed over the dam and came up to the brook from the opposite side. Recommended because the view from the dam is nice and the parking is free. Plenty of bugs but not biting. Just annoying. The waterfall was lovely and we wish we brought clothes for a dip. We’re novice hikers and had no trouble with the route.

Very buggy, biting horse flies on the trail, but once you get into the creek it’s pretty nice

Lovely variety- first part of the trail is paved and easy (unless you can find the entrance to the overlook trail, we could only find the exit), last mile is basically all up hill with a steep drop off next to the trail. Some very muddy spots but not too bad. The Waterfall and the pools at the bottom were amazing! We gotten eaten by bugs on the way back, but that’s to be expected for around 7pm in the summer.

good hike but the mosquitos were aweful! we had to keep putting on bug spray but it didnt seem to matter. also you have to pay $4/person to hike there since it's a state park.

Easy and lovely trail for 2 miles. Wide and flat and appropriate for all ages. Beautiful views. The 1 mile hike to the waterfall is not what I would consider moderate as it is pretty mild with a slight incline at times. Lovely spot at the base of the waterfall where we ate our lunch on a big rock listening to the rushing water. Perfect day!

love this trail. from the state park we we previously stayed frequently the trail is easy. the climb to the falls more moderate. for a shorter hike start at the dam a bit to the north. there is also a very short but steep trail from the road above the falls. CAUTION PEOPLE HAVE DIED HERE AT THE FALLS. Climbing the steep sides looks fun but can be deceiving. the West River Trail from Jamaica State Park is also great for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

This is a great hike with fantastic falls view at the midpoint of the loop. We did the hike in rain that steadily increased as the hike progressed. By the time we made it to the falls the rain was pouring down. Did not discourage us a bit. The hike gets tougher on the 1 mile segment to the falls as others have mentioned

Nice hike first 2 miles along river smooth dirt road like path. last mile up to falls a true hiking trail, a little steep an rocky definitely worth it.

After 9 inches of rain, the West River was amazing. I knew the falls would be great but they more than fantastic today. The hike down Ball Mountain Dam is always fun with great views but the spray from the release was the best ever. So, the best part was, just when the hike finished there was a great rainbow!!!

1st two miles were a fairly level, shaded walk along the river. Flowing water sound the whole way. Did not take the left fork to Ball Mountain Dam. The right path is immediately steeper and goes a mile to the top of the falls. Really pretty view. On the way back we took the side trip down to the lower end of the falls. Great 2 1/2 hours of exercise in peaceful scenery.

We came in late so started from the backside at Bald Mountain dam. There’s a small parking lot there. You shave off a mile or so. Nice sounds of the river all along the way.

This hike was beautiful it’s 6 miles there and back and for a good amount of time you are walking along a river. The last mile before the waterfall is an incline but it’s pretty easy. The water fall was awesome!

I hiked the overlook and then the Hamilton falls trail with a small group of people last year, and am planning to go again soon. In august there is an abundance of mushroom varieties on the way up. Coming back down to get to the main park entrance is also quite enjoyable, where you walk along a wide gravel path following the babbling brook.

This was an easy hike to the falls. Fairly shaded as well. Once we reached the falls you can see a rope on the rocks. We climbed up the rocks with rope and there was a grotto like area on top. Would not recommend for children to do this. Fell coming down and scratched up my back. It was a really pretty sight to see and worth the hike though!
