Short, interesting hike. Hike consists of many overhang areas that you hike under. 2 ladders, and some slickrock as well.

Fun hike. Couple of ladders. Took kids when they were 3 and 5 and they loved it!

Fun short hike. Amazing history of use from Native Americans and more recently, Cowboys. Great views from up top.

Fun and quick hike, with plenty to see along the way and fantastic views after two wooden ladders. Curved rock walls provide some shade too!

Interpretive brochure at trailhead. This trail features lots of small panels identifying various types of native plants and their uses. Climbing two ladders along the route was a unique hiking experience!

Amazing hike! Very easy, but with some quirky fun twists like the 2 ladders, which are not hard per se, but a bit of a thrill. The petroglyphs and the cowboy camp are also amazing. The vegetation is marked in a lot of places so you can also pick up some botany! And at the top, the views are great, too. Overall a must-do quick stop in the Needles.

Diverse hike with lots to see. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was the fact that ancient ladders (left from first peoples perhaps?) were still in use. While I am no OSHA expert I do question the integrity of work of ancient smithies per se, or if not smithies those who were otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts. Either way the ladder appeared secure to the rock face.

Very short hike (we did it after an 11 mile hike) but you get quite a lot of bang for your buck! Cowboy camp, cave paintings, and great views in all directions. If you have just a short trip or aren't much of a hiker, I'd definitely put this on the top of your list! Also there are two ladders on the trail, so that's always fun and makes for some dorky pictures! Trail was very well marked in my opinion.

This hike is longer than what is posted, or we got lost. But worth it! Nice views, not too many people, the cowboy stuff was neat and the trail was mostly wrk marked.

Quick, easy hike that’s partly covered by the rocks and partly exposed. You can see a staged old cowboy home and some early cave paintings. Cool if you’re into the history but it’s not much of a hike by aerobic standards.

Lovely short hike through a canyon with a cowboy camp, cave springs with petroglyphs, and some fun short ladder ascents.

A surprisingly enjoyable trail. We only went because a ranger told us it is his favorite trail. 1/2 the hike is a shady, flat walk in the sand to see some interesting old/ancient places where people used the shallow caves for shelter. The second half is an elevated walk over the top of the rocks forming the caves. Beautiful views and relatively easy walk.

Hugely enjoyed this trail; it's not strenuous though it does have to ladder ascents, but all inclusive with pictographs and cool overhangs

Trail was great. Easy to navigate and well-defined by cairns. No pets due to two ladders leading you to the top of the boulders. Once you're on top, take some time. The navigable portion of the rock is expansive and you can easily climb to the red rocks portion to get great views of the Needles. I'm not sure why people are rating this trail so poorly. This is a 5 star trail if your expectations are for a short mileage, easy trail. The climb is rewarding and it's meant for a leisurely pace. Take half an hour and do this hike. Take your DSLR, your wide angle lens, and your max power lens. The views are stunning, especially at sunrise/sunset. If you want a harder, longer trail, go find one.

Hiked in June 2004, the most noticeable characteristic about this park is that there were only a handful of people there the whole day. Talk about remote, this was it. We passed by the Roadside Ruin Trail, and our first stop was the interesting Cave Spring Trail, an easy .6 mi. loop that took us through some tall desert underbrush in deep sand and overrun with small lizards. We hiked by the old cowboy camp, used as recently as 1975, complete with pots, bottles, and pans, around the base of a rock plateau (the overhang was about six and a half feet high and provided much shade), up a couple of ladders to the top of the rock plateau, through a field of potholes filled with water and spawning life, across the slickrock plateau guided by cairns, and then back down to the sand trail to the parking lot. There was also a spring just past the camp within the rock overhang – hence the name Cave Spring, a groundwater spring at base of the canyon wall flanked with pictographs. Back at the parking lot, we finally saw some other visitors of the human variety – again, this was a remote area. Overall, easy and interesting...
