Great hike. Easy trail to navigate, even though you join/leave two other trails and a service road along the way. Beautiful trail roaming through the piney woods. Only good view of the lake is along the earthen dam, but still pretty cool.

Bets time of year to enjoy this moderately long flat trail. Weather was picture-perfect and there were no bugs! Lot's of "sameness" in the terrain with "deleafed" dogwoods and Loblolly Pine trees. The lake was beautiful and the campgrounds were empty.

Fun.

Fairly easy trail. Nice elevation changes but watch out for the tree roots. I plan on doing this one again.

Fun hike. The lake is gorgeous with lots of large birds flying around. Only difficulty is the length.

Easy trail with a few lake views. Good for an easy loop where distance may be the only hurdle.

The trail is actually just a bit longer than the listed distance. The trail is 95% in the forest. The terrain is riddled with tree roots, so watch your step. You could wear regular tennis shoes and be just fine. Would be a cool trail for biking, and definitely trail running! I completed the whole thing in 2.5 hours.

Came to hike this trail Nov 8th. Area had a cold front and rain the night before. I began the hike around 730. The trail wasnt too bad, some muddy spots, but mainly just damp. I saw a biker and one other hiker the whole time. Very peaceful.

We started at the visitors center did the trail counterclockwise and enjoyed it. We worked up to this trail from the Dogwood trail. We are slow hikers and we’re glad we brought snacks. The next time we hike this trail we will eat lunch at the halfway point on the trail.

Good trail. So-so scenery. Almost all woods, though Texas rougher woods, not the lush green of Appalachian woods. Most of the uphill and downhill runs were short. But there were considerable small to medium roots particularly on the up hills and down hills interspersed with fairly deep white sand. Not much wildlife although I think I saw a red fox scurry across the trail at one point.Weather was mostly cloudy thankfully with the temperatures and around 90° and do point of about Haiti.

This is the first trail my wife and I have done in a while. The trail is not difficult but it is a 7.5 mile trail (not 6.8 as listed). We probably would have finished in ~3.5 hours but a few stops to rest and take in the scenery added about an hour. We saw 1 white-tailed deer on the trail near the dam and a hare as we approached the end of our hike among other wildlife. Definitely a hike we would enjoy again.

Well-maintained, signs provided a clear indication of where to go in most places. Pretty forest settings and views of the lake. Great option for a day hike.

Hiked this trail 3 times in the last month with different people and had a good time each hike. We heard gators and all kinds of birds that we never ended up spotting. Between all 3 times, I did come across deer, a ~2ft. snake half-submerged in the marshy water that appeared to be a cottonmouth, a ~1ft. turtle that seemed to have fallen asleep half-stride on the trail itself, and lots of cardinals, squirrels, lizards, bugs, and frogs. Saw a group of social spiders following one another as they were crossing the trail which was pretty cool.

We truly enjoyed this trail. Make sure to pack lots of water and get there early to avoid the heat! Excellent hike!

Hiked this trail on a Tuesday afternoon and had it mostly to ourselves with the exception of a few mountain bikers. Ended up with an almost 8 mile loop after taking a longer path around the water crossing. Finished the second half of the tail during a torrential downpour however the trail held together nicely and had minimal large puddles for us to avoid. We did encounter a 2’ long copperhead in the middle of the trail so be wary when hiking with children or pets. Unfortunately we collected a full grocery bag of trash left behind by other park goers but all in all it was a great day hike.

Fun, flat, and well marked trail. Several fallen trees throughout.

I really enjoyed this trail. There was plenty of shade and it was pretty well marked. You pass through forest with some lakeside hiking. Plenty of mountain bikers passed us but no horses. Brought our dog who loved it. Trail itself wasn’t challenging, but there was a little incline and it was just shy of 7 miles. No bugs this time of year, but I’m sure there usually are.

Went here to prepare for my Tough Mudder run! Let me tell you this was perfect! It has gradual hills. Some mud areas. Watch out for tree roots! Bring lots of water! Mostly shaded, some water on the trail (not deep maybe a few inches) perfect for running, walking and mountain biking!
