Hike a high-desert meadow with the beautiful Franklin Mountains as a backdrop. The hike is through a High-Desert Meadow. In the spring, poppies sometimes bloom. Although the trail is listed as a 1/2 mile loop. there are several trails splitting off the loop, and 2 or 3 hours could easily be spent wandering around and looking at the plants.

Nice, easy walking path. Near the highway and two museums.

the 97 big white signs that say unexploded ordinance kind of takes away from the experience

Great, easy trail for a spontaneous walk with family or pets. I'd recommend going in the spring to get a good view of the yellow poppies. After you're done, stop in and visit the border patrol and the archaeology museums.

Went after sun rise. Saw a woodpecker, rabbits, and a tarantula in the natural areas. It's easy to keep to the trails, which are mostly well labeled and maintained. First loop is .6 mi, but there are a couple inner loops/ connecting trails (not always well maintained) if you want to extend your run. Terrain is mostly even, which makes this trail good for dogs, especially those not used to hiking.

Kid friendly!!!! Great little trail at the base of the mountains. Took 2 four year olds and they loved to be able to explore on the path. Perfect for a quick trip to get out of the house!

The path is wide, lined with gravel, with native plant exhibits along the way. It's an educational, short walk that is quite enjoyable. Walking shoes are suitable for this trail. Incidentally, it leads to two museums, The National Border Patrol Museum and El Paso Museum of Archaeology. Both are interesting and free but do rely on donations or sales at the gift shops. Plan to walk the trail again in March when yellow poppies appear.

A small nature walk to experience some of El Paso's desert wildlife and plants. Home to a large number of small lizards as well. A good place for children to see many different things in a short time, just be watchful of snakes.

Nice easy walk. Lots so beautiful scenery. Wildlife everywhere. Saw a rabbit, many birds, butterflies & even a rattlesnake ON THE TRAIL! This would be great to take visitors who wanted to see a little scenery & minimal physical exertion.
