Wooded trail near Sugarlands Visitors Center, old cabin, frequent bear activity This is a self-guided nature trail located just behind the Sugarlands Visitor Center. This is a great hike for families with small children, people on a tight schedule or people not able to take more strenuous hikes. The trail is relatively flat, and leads you around a short loop, with views of the wooded forests famous in the Smoky Mountains. At the far end of the trail, there is a restored cabin that offers a view of the past history of the area. This is also a site of a virtual geocache. This trail is notorious for black bear activity, and is sometimes closed when the bears are frequenting the area.

If you want to walk on a crowded manmade pathway, but also be situated in the forest of the GSMNP, this is your walk (not hiking); I guess I’ve been on too many gorgeous trails here to give this one more than a one star.

Nice easy to moderate trail. Uncrowded being so close to the crowds at the visitors center. Continue on to cataract falls which had enough water to be pretty.

definitely recommend this hike for dogs who want to go 2-3 miles. the cataract falls portion was nice but very crowded so don't recommend going that way. the other part was very smooth with a little bit of incline but little traffic. perfectly shaded and areas to break and give the pups water. love! will be back!

I hiked this on March 24 as part of the Cataract Falls. The flowers were not out yet, but still peaceful.

Nice short walk through the forest. Halfway is a cabin that was decorated for Christmas with a door wreath, tree and garland on the fireplace.

Cool short trail about 1.3 miles. Halfway around the loop you come across an old house. Pretty neat. Saw lots of wild turkey. Easy leisurely hike. Nice end to a strenuous day.

Short hike on heavily trafficked forest floor trail that leads to John Ownby's cabin. Parking and bathrooms at Sugarland Visitor Center. The trail guide was very informative and gave us an opportunity to stop and look around.

Lovely mostly flat very easy trail to a small waterfall. Perfect for seniors and little kids. Cross the creek and keep goi g and the trail behinds a slow incline leading g to another small waterfall that cascades from the top of mountain all the way down. This part is good for running.

Good hike. Has a hill but keeps an easy incline.

Nice easy hike from the Sugarlands Visitor Center - a few inclines and very shady. Pass the John Ownby cabin and add on the .4 round trip to see Cataract Falls - a small but pleasant waterfall. Great for kids.

Super easy hike. Great for kids or elderly. Fun creeks in the area. “Bob’s house” along the loop reminds people not to vandalize on National Park property!

Nice, easy and safe hike. We had a fun time exploring with our three year old and our 1.5 year old. Didn’t see much wildlife aside from a few squirrels. Lots of little streams around

Very easy hike, my 15 month old was able to walk the whole way. Nice quick family hike, although relatively crowded.

Nice little loop with the kids. It’s a good place to start a morning to warm up for more difficult terrain.

Took the south part of the loop to get to Ownby Cabin. Fairly easy trail with a simple log bridge to cross. Friend has a knee replacement so we needed a easy-ish trail as a starter for him. GREAT cabin that you can go in! north trail back was a TEST for him, up trail parts were OK, it was the down trail parts that had him worried. The side trip to Cataract Falls was just SWEET!!!!

Great trail for kids! spend the 50 cents and get the self guide to the nature trail. We had 2, 6, and 11 year olds. They loved looking for the trail markers, and reading the labled trees.

Good for toddlers and older people. The Cataract Falls are only ~0.5 miles away from visitor center. You can keep going uphill from there and bite off as much as you want, but not a whole lot more to see except the forest fire area
