very steep inclines/decline. rock formations at top are awesome. views when clear are stunning. definitely need hiking boots, and trekking poles would be a benefit.

my favorite Trail ever I'm not going to say this is an easy Trail but it is a beautiful trail that is worth every step from the minute you get on you start climbing up in elevation but it is absolutely beautiful

It’s a steep, sustained climb up into rattlesnake territory and an equally steep scramble back down the other side. The ES 100 happened this past weekend and the course followed some of the trail. It certainly looked like it’s felt the thrashing of hundreds of feet. The decent down the hollow was wild and full of nettles at the bottom. I really liked the rock formations.

6-30-2019: Hiked the trail one way starting at the North end to do the steep part first. Definitely recommend since steep part was wet. Great rock outcrops.

We hiked 7/5/19..wear long pants and trail shoes. Going up is the easy part. We started near entry to Little Pine State Park. Saw 5 rattlesnakes at top in sunny area, so watch your step. Bugs are awful thru entire thing, but the worst near the creek as we headed down. Off deep woods didn’t do a thing for the bugs. It was very steep and muddy going down, so trail shoes were great for this part. Lots of ferns and burnt hazel along creek area, very overgrown. We walked road back to truck. Challenging trail. Took about 2 hours.

Great Trail. Route: Love Run to Mid State to Panther Run. Definitely steep & difficult. Did part of this in summer, lots of mosquitoes. This weekend (9/29/18) was perfect...Cool & few mosquitoes. Panther Run trail from Mid State is straight down...be prepared.

Route: love run —> panther trail Hard trail especially coming down! Enjoyed the experience overall. Trail is not well known and we were the only ones on the trail. Might do it again for the intensity of workout.

Great hike. Decent incline on the way up and decline on the backside of the trail.

This trail is very difficult, straight up and straight down. The state park said it was a 2.9 mile trip. Wish I had checked this app first because seven is more accurate. We came across a den of about ten rattlesnakes. Also, plenty of stinging nettle. All said, we feel accomplished!

This is a fun trail. The steep initial incline leads to a flat stretch through mostly deciduous forest and eventually to large exposed rocks at the top of a ridge before descending. Not a long hike, but a perfect length for an afternoon. I have encountered Timber Rattlesnakes on this trail, but that is not unusual in this area.

If you go up Panther Run then connect to Love Run just make sure you turn left at the cabin in the woods. Don't cross the bridge at the cabin and climb the next mountain. That is not Love Run Trail and will add miles and a steep climb to your trip and you will end up on the Mid States and lost like we did. We bush whacked back down the mountain to meet back up with Love Run and it was a total of 6 miles because we missed that turn at the cabin. Otherwise it is a good hike but the backside of Panther Run is super steep and a bit technical. I would rate the Panther Run loop difficult for most normal hikers. Adding in what we did made it crazy difficult and just dumb on our part although we did not see the turn at the cabin marked.

It's a great trail, but a lot of the panther run loop needs remarked south of 322. There were a couple parts I almost got lost because of the faded marks. If you look around enough you should be able to spot on here and there to help you along. The trail north of 322 is newly marked and easy to follow.

Panther Run Trail provides a steep access to the wild Mid State Trail and can be combined with the Spike Buck Trail to complete a nice seven mile loop. Be in shape for this one.
