Moderate hike through the woods type hike through six of pine, fir and maple trees, as well as Crone Miller lake. Peavy Arboretum is an arboretum operated by Oregon State University and located on Arboretum Road, Corvallis, Oregon. The arboretum was dedicated by the university in 1926, operated as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp from 1933-1942, and reverted to College of Forestry management in 1964. While the CCC was active, they planted trees, expanded the nursery, constructed Cronemiller Lake, and built roads, trails, and firebreaks. This hike takes you through the old growth forests, and forestry sections of the Arboretum. Pass by an old dynamite cap house, as well as Crone Miller Lake where the Oregon State logging club holds competitions.

This hike is one of my favorites, moderate/hard. Steep inclines at times, gorgeous views, Powder house, and a stop by the lake! There have been cougar sightings in the past, make sure you're prepared on defense strategies My only criticism is there's a poorly marked area at the top around the pines, just keep going straight. Numerous times I've turned and gone to the dead end

Incredible views with a good moderate challenge, will definitely be back!

Mostly beautiful Shady Forest.

Nice hike. We intended to do this loop but the poor signage go us off track. We ended up doing 7.5 miles around the varying little trails. However it was not a bad detour as we explored around. Trails are well maintained and easy to walk on.

Great trail, although I would have categorized it as hard, not moderate. If you’ve hiked Cascade Head, that is marked as hard. This trail was just as hard if not more so. Mostly due to the incline. That aside, it was an amazing hike that pushed my limits and rewards you with a great view at the top. Would do it again anytime.

Lots of elevation gain on this hike, but a beautiful view at the top!

Variety of adjacent trails near this one. I saw bikers and joggers. the only downside is limited parking.

Very nice day-hike. Trail in very good condition and maybe a half dozen others on the trail this Friday afternoon. A beautiful sunny day with a pretty view from the clearings around the powder house. We are recent Illinois immigrants and in our 70's +, so the elevation gain was a bit challenging. Would recommend.

Went on to the powder house road to be accompanied to an owl. Beautiful walk, not too hard but a still has an incline! Would recommend!

Definitely a great trail. Challenging for beginners but otherwise pretty relaxing.

As others said, quiet and pleasant.

This was a great early morning hike! Definitely be sure to grab a Forest map at the parking lot as some of the markers are confusing. I ended up tacking on part of the Powder House trail to make it longer and it was a fantastic addition.

Well marked. Not many people. Lush beautiful forest.

A lot to see from the foliage, some really neat trees. Not a lot in terms of landscape, the forest along the trail is just so dense. Well maintained and some steep segments, would make for a great run I think and I am to run it soon

I love this trail! So much to see, I did the whole loop this morning and never saw another human being! They have done quite a bit of logging on the south side, reveals the gnarly old , majestic surviving individuals. I took the connector trail up to the 530, then crossed the 500 and returned down to Cronemiller Lake by the trail. Back to the car, is almost 4 miles.

OSU does a very good job maintaining this trail. It's in very good condition and well marked. However, expect a lot of other users and know that ALL dogs will be unleashed even though there are ample signs throughout indicating dogs must be leashed. Aggressive, charging dogs, one off his rocker aggressive, screaming dog owner, and bags of poop scattered throughout are reasons enough for me to say one visit is enough. Also, mtn bikers ride the hiking trails, so watch for them too. Better yet, go somewhere else. There is nothing relaxing about this place. Sorry OSU.

Loved this trail. It was difficult at some points then eased up at others to make for a good workout without annihilating my legs. The scenery was beautiful and the trails well kept. Will definitely be going back here.

Finding the signs is tricky so be on the lookout! Beautiful area with tons of natural sounds and sights. Some steady inclines and declines to be expected. Bring a snack and enjoy it!

The trail is amazing! Watch out because it is not well marked. One time I ended up walking 10 miles, another 5. The map is a little tricky. Give yourself plenty of time in case you get lost.

I grew up running this trail with friends since i lived less than a mile away. I was on it a couple of years ago and agree its a bit run down and needs maintenance

This trail was beautiful and very well maintained. We did cross paths with about 8 people over the 4 hours we spent on the trails exploring. The area is amazingly beautiful and quite cool on hot days.

Someone gave this the double black diamond rating and I'm moving that back at least one rating. Yes, it's 600 ft of elevation gain in a couple of miles. But a kid RAN past me while I huffed and puffed at one of the bench spots. So, maybe not the best spot for an afternoon stroll with your Nana (though your Nana could be in way better shape than I am!) but also not the workout of your life. The variety of trees is kind of 'ehh' to me. A lot of the signs marking different sections have been broken down or vandalized. The scenery is pleasant woods and it's close to a metro area if convenience is your thing. It is interesting to see the grounds where they do the logging games though.

This is a beautiful hike in either direction. Although, clockwise offers the challenge of an uphill climb. All along there are plenty of other trails that peel off so you don't have to feel committed--even though it's worth it!

What a nice hike. The path is well maintained, beautiful scenery, and all in all a nice hike. I went about 10:30 Tuesday the first day of summer 2011.
