The impacts of continuing budget cuts on the FS is real evident here. The first stretch, about .8 miles, is great. Rolling, easy, no roots. Awesome trail for families. Once you hit the switchback, you're hauling your bike over a downed tree every 100 feet. Gave up at about tree 20. The cutoff trail has so much deadfall on it, I didn't even see it going in, and had to really look for it coming out. Too bad, this is a great trail. I wouldn't think it'd even be fun for hikers.

We started this hike at the Diamond Lake trailhead. Didn't quite get to the top of the butte as daylight was leaving us. We actually went 5 miles round trip but the GPS crapped out at about halfway if you look at my track. Pretty much uphill all the way. Not much of a view as the trail is entirely in lush forest. But we didn't get to the top either. A good workout.
