The trail has some beautiful elements, including old growth, some scenic views, and new forest recovering from fire. However, some sections are very rough, having been damaged by fire, tree fall, and overgrowth. It's easy to lose your way! It looks like the FS is in the process of repairing heading up Rebel Creek, but there's much work to do and Rebel Rock trail is in rough shape the whole way.

8/12/18- Hazardous Hornets! Fire ecology on display along Rebel Creek. The 2017 Revel Rock fire left most trees scorched but alive. The trail was apparently used by fire crews for access as some materials are still piled along trail. Otherwise this trail would likely not be open at all. Many trees continue to fall and debris rolling down hillside create new obstacles along trail. DANGER- About 2 miles in on Rebel Creek our dog attacked a hornets nest and turned us back. Our group of three sustained about a dozen stings while we ran away along a narrow section of trail with a steep drop.

attempted the Creek trail, but due to excessive burn out from the summer before, we probably only got .5 mile in. The Creek is pretty, though, and worth the stop if you come up FR19 from the south. It is still blocked from the north due to a rock slide at Cougar Reservoir.

The fire lookout has apparently burned down in the fires of August 2017 so sad

Planned an overnight near the lookout, but the trail has been reclaimed by wilderness at about mile 5. The trail was in fairly excellent shape until then. We came from the north side and did not reach the lookout or any views, though we came very close. Quite frustrating. Might try again from the south side of the loop... Abundant downed trees and thick undergrowth were too difficult to pass through with an overnight pack. Adventurous dayhikers starting early may be able to find their way, but should be prepared for really gnarly terrain and scant evidence of trail near the top.

I went counter clockwise - out the Rebel Rock Trail and back along Rebel Creek. Those first four miles were pretty unrelenting, but wanted to get all the climbing out of the way in the shortest distance possible. Great views at the top of Rebel Rock, Pyramid Mtn. and the surrounding area, but the trail could use some maintenance -mostly miles 4 to 6. Couple of nice streams feeding into Rebel Creek to soak your feet in on the way back in.

I did this one as a loop starting on trail 3323 by Rebel creek and around to 3324 by Trail creek, clockwise. As the first reviewer notes the trail can become sparse in sections, however it was still easy enough to follow when I was there in 2012. It was a cloudy weekend when I was there but there still was much to see and explore. The trail climbs steeply in sections and can have a secluded feeling. The lookout is in bad shape and worsening. Here is a link to a video I shot highlighting the lookout and its condition.

The hike was quite a challenge for me. At the bottom the trail is level, well maintained, there is a creek running through with log bridges stretch across them. After a mile or two, as you elevation, there are many switchbacks. But the trail is still nice and every once in a while, you come back to a creek again. Toward the top, you run in to a lot of loose soil, big holes and roots and the trail was overrun by tall plants, making it hard to see. we never made it to the lookout tower because it was getting dark and we didn't want to risk walking back down through the plants and holes and dirt in the dark . But all around the view was lovely.
