Scrambling

Beautiful canyon and creek, Rock Climbing, Sheer cliffs, hiking and Mountain biking. This hike takes you up and down through this climbers paradise. Because this is a world famous climbing site and the weather is good year round, solitude is hit or miss. The amazing hike through the crooked river canyon is worth putting up with the crowds. The trail is mostly easy walking but gets quite strenuous as it climbs over the ridge. Stop occasionally and watch the climbers rise and fall on the solid rhyolite tuff. Many optional routes can lead you through this park, but one main trail exists throughout. Dont miss monkey face and other rock formations. After hiking this park, head over to the Cove Palisades and hike the Tam-A-Lau Loop.

It was a nice hike and not too difficult. my 14yo son hiked with me and was able to do it. Weather was overcast and some of the trail was slick especially on the north side with less sun but overall a great day out.

It was an intense lung workout to the misery summit. I felt vertigo and altitude sickness just because I’m not trained in doing such cardio so quickly. Hearing fellow hikers say they were so busy focusing on their misery on the way up was hilarious. You feel their pain. You can take it at your own pace but the steps and trail up is quiet narrow and wet so trying to avoid running into people can be hard. The hike down was the best part aside from the summit. Recommend time to get this hike done about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. So exhilarating!

Initial climb is quite steep and backside was a bit snowy/slick. Overall a really nice, sunny hike.

Take the summit trail instead of going to the river trail because the river trail is closed to help restore the habitat. Otherwise great day to walk in the clouds!

Worth it once, try to miss the crowds. Remember to leave it better than you found it.

What a STELLAR hike for anyone willing to put in some serious incline work at the beginning. It took about 45 min for me to make it up the steepest incline, but the views were absolutely worth it. Really appreciated the (mostly) relaxed second half of the trail and so fun to watch the rock climbers as I made my way to the beginning again. Absolutely loved this trek and look forward to doing it again SOON!

Started at 8am going “clockwise” and with lots of side exploration and sight seeing finished well before noon! Beautiful trail with awesome views. Definitely recommend doing the incline first so that your hike back down and around is shady and leisurely.

Not much to add to what's been said. It wasn't crowded at all (Monday) but it is blazing hot with no shade. I went up Misery Ridge, down Monkey Face, around the backside and up Summit trail, down Burma Road or whatever it's called, and back by the canyon river trail. It took about 4 hours and 20 minutes but I spent over an hour at lunch and another half hour just general sight seeing.

Misery Ridge definitely lives up to its name. I have hiked this trail twice and it never gets any easier on the way up. Make sure to take lots of water. Walking sticks are recommended for older walkers. It made it much easier the 2nd time up. We were able to finish Misery Ridge and the loop around near the river in 2 3/4 hours. The view at the top is spectacular and well worth the trip.

Follow the BLM trail up to the top of Grey Butte for an even more amazing view and several more miles of sun exposure.
