I parked at the point that Google maps sent me, no locked gates or private property. Everything was just as posted here, the first half of the trail is on an old logging road that has been out of use for many years and makes a fantastic walking trail, second half is on a usable gravel road so not very pretty. last short bit is a overgrown trail up to the lake. When I got to the lake, it started snowing and the lake was completely frozen over. I got snowed on the whole hike back up to my car but the lake is gorgeous and the trail is pretty great in general. I'll definitely be coming back soon.

Access to the trailhead is from Quartzville Dr( first left after Yellowstone creek), the road is paved almost all the way up from Quartzville. The trail is nice although a little overgrown. The trail drops down hill till it connects with a road then heads back south on the road. A little ways up, the road dead ends into cement blocks and the trail continues straight forward to the lake.

Magnificent! Massive trees almost a thousand years old. A really magical, unworldly place well worth the visit. Access from hwy 20, quartzville road, ignore reviews that tried to access over private property, approach from South which is all BLM land and there are no gates (see directions via Oregon Wild's Ancient Forests of Oregon book). Always verify road access before using Google maps across private property and please don't give bad reviews for this reason.

Took the route Google told me to take, but the gate was closed and said "private property of Weyerhauser". Saw another road that might possibly lead to Crabtree, but after 30mins of backwoods trails we were confronted by the same kind of gate. Looks like Weyerhauser bought up all of the property and doesn't allow access anymore.

Have done this hike 3 times in the last two weeks. first 2 times we hiked in from th. however there is a mama bear and her 2 cubs up on the ridge entirely to close so we opt to drive the next time and only habe to hike in the .3 to lake. worth every sec. take bug spray. it's the worst. also. go across creek and go left. views are incrediable...

drove over an hour to get out there, and two miles from the start of the hike, there was a gate across the road.

Beautiful hike, perfect for testing your gear. Very secluded and private. The lake was full of newts and fish, but access to the lake was limited. The water is warm and good for a swim. The only people we saw were a couple groups of day users who drove to a closer entrance for a short walk in. No one else on the actual hiking trail.

Very scenic hike and the ending point will not disappointment! However nothing is marked and not easy to find the trailhead. Hidden gem!

Easy going to the lake mostly downhill. The work out is coming back. The lake itself is very beautiful although it was a bit foggy on the day i was there so you really could now see the large trees up the from us. Nice hike and a very peaceful spot for lunch.
