A.W. Marion State Park features a scenic loop. This trail has a few good views of Hargus Lake, some tougher hills (with stairs), plenty of geocaching, and is very friendly to dogs. Hargus has lots of fishing, a lively marina, great camping, and picnicking in many spots.

We loved this trail. It was very dog friendly, had plenty of great views of the lake, and was challenging in all the right ways. It finishes up right around 5 miles. However, I will say that the “Easy” rating is not accurate. There were several steep hills, creeks to cross, many places of deep/sticky mud, and a lot of roots and rocks along the trail. It was overall a great time and I would highly recommend it to moderate level hikers.

Great trail that overlooks the lake. A bit muddy in spots. Great for kids.

Great hike around the lake, unimproved and can get a little muddy during rainy times but a nice hike with some mild hills. The woods are really nice.

Great trail very beautiful around the lake with the fall color. Trail wasn’t too difficult and only a little muddy despite the rain a couple days ago. It’s currently listed in All Trails as 8.5 miles. Signs in the park say it’s 5 miles, but it’s closer to 4.7 in our experience. Listening to the outdoor shooting range was a bit of a downer but the trail was great, wasn’t busy, and was a short drive from Columbus. Definitely worth checking out.

I hiked mostly the mtn bike trail. I prefer it to the perimeter loop trail. I usually never come across many hikers or bikers when I hike it.

um. so it's under 4 miles. not 8.5. boring. near a gun range so it was non stop gunfire the entire hike

Decent trail for running. It gave me a good workout. Some of the stair steps are kind of washed out and I would imagine are fairly hard to navigate if muddy, so I recommend going during dry weather.

Good hike. Some decent lake views. Muddy areas and bugs in the shaded areas. Loop is about 4 miles, not the 5mi posted. Would be better once it dries out.

Good hiking; hilly and varied terrain but didn’t seem to have a lot of photo opportunities.

pretty nice trail, the walking trail is only 5 miles the mountain bike trail is 8.5 miles! just a heads up about the distance, the trails are marked but they were hard to understand since the map at the trail head did not show the mountain bike trail. the blue trail is for walking and red/ orange trail is for mountain bikes. the trail itself was nice they have recently put in several new bridges, the old ones looked very unsafe. we came across a few dozen trail runners and probably a dozen bikers on our trip. the lake was pretty busy being labor day weekend. there is a shooting range on site and it is a hunting area during hunting season so dogs may not be a good idea. I will be going back

Loved this hike. Brought my vizsla who loved it too- until the gun shots started( skeet shooting is guessing ). He grew accustomed to them after a while, but If you have a skittish pup I’d be hesitant.

This trail was pretty easy. Well marked in most places, but it got a little confusing when I came out in the campground. This time of year, there were some parts that were a little tricky to navigate—lots of mud, streams crossing the path, etc. but overall a nice little jaunt through the woods!

Hidden gem. My idea of hiking: primitive, but well- marked trail and few humans. Great view of lake for about half of the hike and some really cool geological features. The dogs loved it. There were gunshots fired, as we hiked during hunting season. Therefore, dogs were leashed. Would definitely return. The directions did not quite get me to the trailhead, but it was less than 0.5 mile away.

It's a good muddy trail today. The storms have not been good to the lake trail.

Absolutely beautiful. Very peaceful place, not a lot of people. It is totally dog friendly and you can see the water the entire time.
