This is an easy trail with a great overlook and nice area down by the Cape Fear River. It's very popular and great for dogs and kids.

Easy roughly 2.5 mile loop through piedmont pine and deciduous forest. Fairly flat. Raven rock itself is amazing and huge. Note that there are multiple flights of steep stairs to get to the Rock if anyone in your party has mobility issues. You can easily add the creek loop trail to this hike to get closer to 4 miles. Definitely a worthy hike and pretty family friendly.

Got down to the river before the First Day Hike crowd and then combined with the Group Camp trail out to site #1. Conditions were great. Beautiful day and a great hike. Note that Raven Rock SP is constructing a new ~30 site campground to open summer 2020. They are planning to close the current Group Camp area due to damage sustained during hurricanes. I suggested they at least keep the area open for hiking.

Nice stroll in the woods, quiet with few people this time of year. It is an easy trail if you don’t go down to the river/raven rock, if you do go down I would say more moderate just because there are a lot if stairs to go down and back up. There is a decent overlook of the river and lots of cool scrambling and exploring opportunities under the rocky cliffs on the riverbank.

Loved this trail. It’s easy to follow, there are stairs but they are well maintained with places to stop and test if needed, and the views! Will do this one again.

A very well traveled trail that leads to cliffs along the Cape Fear river. A unique destination for this part of NC. Extremely busy complete with crying baby’s and lots of loud people. Maybe go on a weekday for some solitude.

This was the first trail I tried out since being in NC it was a great easy path. The stairs down to the river are fun, very dog friendly place.. and seeing the rocks makes me want to rock climb them.

Good hike. Crowded.

Too much foot traffic and dogs to enjoy much of the hike. The lower portion by water has some neat views and makes the easy hike worth it, but be prepared to share any near location with many people.

Honestly this trail was a bit lackluster for me. However, it’s pretty easy minus the stairs down and up down to the rock by the river. The lookout is pretty, but small. I personally enjoy something more moderate and less crowded. This trail was heavily trafficked and if you’re looking for something peaceful, unless you can come on a weekday, this probably won’t be it with the number of foot traffic.

For some reason I always go counterclockwise on these trails, you end up with a lot more interaction this way. Raven Rock is my home park, and this is the best trail that I have encountered there so far.

Fairly easy 2.5 mile loop and nicely shaded. Well worth the effort. Did some geocaching on this route.

Really enjoyed this hike. We were testing it out to see if it would be a good one to bring the kids. The full loop may be a bit much for our 3 year old, but you can do just half the loop and still enjoy the overlook and rock formation. We went on a weekday and didn’t find that it was very busy at all. We were, however, frustrated at the amount of trash we found around the trail. Even though there are plenty of trash cans and recycle bins, people seem to just toss their garbage all over the place.
