Panther Top Road is an easy hike, and so worth it for the view. Trailhead is located at the base of the mountain, and during the winter the gate beyond the trailhead is closed, restricting road traffic. A second gate on the trail is closed year round, and there's no real good places to park there, so it's suggested you park down by the gate. The entire hike is along a forestry road and leads up to the very top of Pather Top (a.k.a. Panther Knob). At the top one will find the historic Panther Top Lookout Tower, built in 1940, which is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register. Though access to the top of the tower is restricted, impressive views to the north can be seen from the stairs up to the tower. The road connects to a couple of other trails in the area, including the Panther Gap trail which leads from Panther Top down through Panther Gap and on to the confluence of the Nottely River and Hiwassee River at Ramsey Bend, though that trail is grown over and is much more difficult than this one.

Not exactly what I would classify as "easy". It was a challenge for this out of shape, overweight, almost 50 y/o with an ailing knee. The view at the top was all worth it though. Worth the trek.

Good short hike that is feasible with young children. It’s a steeper climb but worth it for the views on top. Watch-out tower was closed off but we could still climb up the stairs for a higher view. Not paved at all. Rocks make the path easy to hike with switch backs and a thick path. They do well to maintain the whole path and I have no complaints. Lots of grass on top to have a picnic or play ball with the kids. Mountain View’s in every direction. Parking is on the side of the road and can be tricky because the path to the trail is narrow and only room for one car. We Were so grateful no cars were trying to come down the mountain while we were going up.

This trail is a road that goes all uphill till you hit the lookout tower. Great for training and dog walks. I ran with an older gun shy dog and the gunshots did not phase her. Great spot with a sick view.

Going up was a little intense at times and wasn’t a fan of the nearby shooting range, but the 360 views at the top were worth it. Well maintained and marked.

Awesome hike! Dog friendly, gorgeous scenery. Loved reaching the top and getting the view of surrounding mountains. We even saw a baby deer at the beginning.

Good quick climb for family/dogs, it’s an emergency service road the entire climb. We parked at the first gate you would have to pass through, just because the 2nd doesn’t have parking. Amazing view. A lot of gnats in middle of climb but at the top not much. Watch for bees at tower tho! Good vibes and solitude!

5 star view. Easy family-friendly walk on a gravel road. Minus one star for the gnats.

The view from the top of the fire tower was amazing. You couldn’t get to the top and walk around on the platform. But you could easily get to the top of the stairs, so you were as high as possible. I did park at the second gate. I tried not to block anything. But there isn’t really a good place to park there! My tracker said it’s only .8 miles from my truck to the tower. It was an easy walk. It’s an old forestry road. It seems like a trail, because it’s totally wooded. I’m going back again tonight!

8/5/19 Amazing little hike up to a fire tower that you can partially climb. Gnats were in our faces the whole way. Under the tower itself there are a lot of hornets/ wasps but they didn't really bother us until we were leaving. A little bit of elevation but it wasn't too bad definitely worth it for the view. We parked at the wrong spot so had about an extra half mile up but atleast it was downhill on the way back.

Nice easy trek up a closed (to vehicles) forest road to the fire lookout tower up top. It was summer and there were lots of gnats, otherwise my dog and I loved it. The tower was closed, but you can climb up to a landing to get an amazing view. The shooting range nearby is clearly audible. There was no shooting going up, but it started while we were at the top. My dog HATES fireworks and guns. I about never got him off that mountain. I had fun. He did too until the guns.

Nice hike, if your a couple and just want to get out walk for a quick nice hike it's well worth it. Awesome view from the tower. You can't climb up all the way up the tower because it is closed off but you still can go up half way and get some very nice views of the area.

Excellent views at the tower.

Steady strenuous climb up from the USFS gate to the tower. Nice panorama for sunrises. I stayed up too for an hour to catch the sunset but trees factored in to the western view. The southern sky lit up quite nice though. The walk back down was easy. I’ll go back to catch a sunrise.

Not an easy trail to find. Next to a shooting range and yes they were shooting today, echoing throughout the hike. Not a trail, it’s a road. Consistent up to the top, there’s the Panther Tower built in the 40’s for fire observation. Panoramic view.

Perfect day for a hike. This was the first hike I've done this season where it got warm enough that I was able to hike in a t-shirt and I still worked up a sweat. Spring and Summer and sweating hikes are coming for sure!
