Here in the autumn of 1777, American forces met, defeated and forced a major British army to surrender. This crucial American victory in the Battle of Saratoga renewed patriots hopes for independence, secured essential foreign recognition and support, and forever changed the face of the world. Begin your visit at the Visitor Center, where you can pick up a park map & brochure and pay your entrance fee. The Visitor Center also has restrooms, a book and gift shop, 20-minute orientation film, fiber-optic light map, timeline display, and artifact display.

Nice easy ramble through meadows, forest, and ravine. Flat terrain except for the brief down-then-up through the ravine. Interpretive markers along the way. Lots of wildlife to look out for.

The trail was great! There were some hills, mud, and rocks but it was doable. There were a ton of bugs but it’s probably just a buggy season. My dog was with me and did great on the trail. It’s very easy to follow where the trail leads. It is approximately 4.5 miles long depending on if you go off trail to the side trails or not.

If the trail weren’t so wet it should have a 5 rating. Visitor center is great, clean and well staffed. Trail is marked well if you follow arrows to the right. Trail is rated easy but a little more difficult than some rated as moderate because of steep hills.

Trail is in great shape now. Leaves are in full color or maybe a little past. Today was my first hike through here since the big windstorm earlier this year. What a great job by the NPS to clear the trail! I ended up walking from Balcares Redoubt to the Chatfield Farm on the woods trail. Very nice trail, well maintained, dry and mowed close.

Nice trail. Well groomed, nicely marked. Trail is mostly flat, no poles needed. Some nice views especially with the leaves turning. Would do again. Trail is mostly out in the open with fields all around. It was very windy today when I hiked. I saw 4 other people on the trail.

Really nice walk, especially with some fall colors showing. Gentle and well-marked. Make sure your phone is fully charged so you can do the cell phone tour. I could only do three of them before my battery died, but it seemed like it would add a lot to the trail. Unfortunately, the tour road was closed when I went, so this was all I could do.

Very pleasant year around loop trail. Variety of habitats, mostly mature forest and open fields replicating 1700’s conditions with a few wetlands and stream crossings. Trail well maintained and marked.

Lovely trail, with some great fields. We saw lots of wildflowers in midsummer. We also saw a lot of birds, including field sparrows, goldfinches, and an indigo bunting. Also make sure to take the drive if it's open to learn about the historical significance of the area.

Mother’s Day Walk, we walked the entire 4.2 mile walk with 9 year old boys. Nice scenic walking, paths well maintained. Dogs allowed, we came a week after the storm, and they had it all cleaned up!
