It’s a wide trail the whole way up. The first 1.8mi were pretty easy, once you reach the sign to turn right up hunter Mountain it becomes steep. Micro spikes recommended at this point. Not overly challenging but not a walk in the park. The view from the tower is great.

Great day for a hike 1-5 inches of ice/snow depending on where you are on the trail. Dog friendly and easy to follow. Wide forest horse path/road all the way up to the firetower.

Sustained steep climbing. Many fellow hikers at the fire tower and the way down. The views from the fire tower are worth it, but be prepared to take breaks. The last stretch was challenging because we were getting worn out, and wanted to finally reach the summit. Loose rocks and muddy/flooded sections that you can get around.

This trail is easy and kind of boring, it's just humping it up or down a forest road. Some parts are covered with driveway gravel. There's a few steep sections and a couple nice spots to sit and rest. I appreciated having water on the trail, but other than that there's very little that could be considered a point of interest. There are basically no views from the trail itself, but you can take a detour to the John Robb shelter, or climb the fire tower at the summit. It's a good route if you're just in a hurry to bag Hunter Mountain, but I wouldn't recommend it for people who like to go on hikes.

Wonderful wide trail that goes up to the Hunter fire tower. Mild incline the entire first half then steep incline for around a mile & then the top is flat. Still was a little snow at the top but easy without any snow gear. One warning, in the first 1/2 mile we spotted a copperhead that crossed the trail right in front of us. Watch out for them in the leaf piles!
