Beautiful views along the entire ridge. You’ll think you’re at the summit 4-5x before you really are, but that’s part of the fun! The trail is pretty minimal toward the end and there are some side trails that looked tempting, but mostly stick to the top of the ridge - easier to follow, more handholds on the rocks. Lots of loose rock and scree and the trail is quite steep, so we slipped a few times and our elderly dog had some trouble but hung in there. We’ve done a lot of much “bigger” hikes than this one but found it surprisingly challenging compared to our expectations. We saw exactly zero other people on a beautiful Saturday. Overall worth it and a truly stunning hike, especially with the solitude!

Fun trail. Great views

Very steep trail that goes pretty much along and over the ridge line. There are no switchbacks to ease the slope. But you are rewarded with a fantastic 360 view of NM. There are several fake summits that will cheat you into thinking you're almost done. But only after about three quarters of the trail you'll see the real deal and wonder, what was I thinking! There are no trail markers at the beginning. Use GPS and look for rock piles. Over the last quarter the trail sorta fizzles out at times but if you stick to the ridge you can't go wrong.

Challenging but worth it. The trail climbs quite steeply, so plan on a little extra hiking time. This is a rockhounds paradise, though. When the sun is high overhead, the trail glitters with quartz. Also, near the halfway point, there is a perfect flat rock ideal for sunbathing.

The hardest part is finding the parking spot. Then it’s finding the trailhead. As this was my 2nd time, both were easy. Very nice rock and amazing views. The false peaks seem to go on forever, but well worth it when you reach the top. Most locals refer to this as Turtleback Mountain.
