Poppy Allen Trail follows four- to five-footwide, flat, pine needle covered paths and some short sections of sand roads. The trail makes a large open loop, winding through mature pine-oak forest. At the far end, it connects with Falkinburg Trail and leads back to the south end of the group campground road. This trail is open to multi-use outside the day use area. “Poppy” Allen was the first caretaker of Bass River State Forest in 1905.

Our favorite “go-to” trail. Well marked, plenty of parking and a wide footpath make this trail perfect for hiking with a companion (pup/human).

Nice quick walk, wide well-marked paths. The lake is a nice reward at the end.

These trails are the best in the area, I have being going to Bass River since I was a kid, now my husband and I love hiking with our two dogs, just mins from our house. Highly recommended trails, yellow trail is the best.

Today I hiked the 3.4 mile Yellow trail at Bass River State Forest. The trail is a very nice walk through the pine barrens at its best. The paths are wide and very well maintained the blazes are on signposts so there is no chance of missing them.It is all flat sand paths. This will be my new go to spot, it is only 4 miles from home.
