This is a pleasant, short hike to some outstanding viewpoints to the east, southwest, west and northeast. Its a great place for a picnic lunch. Starting at parking on Stonetown Rd, follow the road south for a short distance to the blue blazed Highlands Trail (just before junction with Westbrook Rd). Turn left (east) into the woods and begin a gradual climb up the south slope of Windbeam Mountain. You will see a few limited viewpoints along the way. The trail levels out, then after a short downhill section it joins the red & white blazed Stonetown Circular Trail. Together they climb to the top of Windbeam Mountain. Reaching the top you will come to several outstanding viewpoints, the best of which comes after a short descent into a shallow ravine and climb up the other side. From here, retrace your steps to the junction of the Highlands and Stonetown Circular Trail and return via the Stonetown Circular.

Where do you park to get to this trail ? I GPS and ended up in front of people’s houses ?

Boring for first 1/4 mile due to traffic noise and terrain. But it sure makes up for lost time with a steep incline and fantastic views. Go counterclockwise as it is more stepped going up and easier on the knees going down.

Steady incline, but very overgrown and muddy in areas. Good overlook!

Great ~90 minute hike (including several stops). Mostly in shade which was good on a hot sunny day, but enough clearing at the top to afford some lovely views.

Live in town and trail never disappoints. Big incline is similar to western mountains with the view to back up the climb.

Did this one back in July and it instantly became one of my favorites in Jersey. Astounding views on all sides from the summit area, and numerous views on the way up. Parking sucked tho

Its not the easiest one ive done. More challenging than Kanouse and much steeper. Follow red triangle on white blazes up to the flag and back down. Didn't see any off trails to make it a loop. Its a good 2.5 miles total and 1.25 miles constant incline to flag. Amazing views all the way up and down.

Had a hard time finding the actual trail but found the highlands trail easily even though it's literally just a tiny post on the side of the road. Started hiking where the highlands trail and windbeam trail connect and unfortunately could not continue any further because there was a large group of hornets and my friend was stung about five times :/ if you are thinking of doing this trail please be careful!

Live right next to this trail. Love it. Please don't take down the flag at the top.

It was a great hike! Steady elevation up the entire way. The trail was easy to find and right across the street from the recreation complex where we parked. followed the red/aqua trail all the way up until you hit the flag. You'll definitely know once you've made it to the top. Great scenery along the way as well! I took my yorkie and pitbull along and they both were able to do it without much trouble. Just have to be careful on the way down with the dogs as certain points are steep and can be slippery.

I parked at the sporting complex. walk back down the same road and enter the well marked trail just before the guard rail to your right on the opposite side of the street. the hike begins as a pleasant stroll through the woods and eventually turns into a pretty steep uphill climb. about a mile in you begin to get some awesome veiws especially if you explore off the trail a bit.. All in all you get some pretty cool veiws without having to do to strenuous of a hike.

Excellent hike with spectacular views! Follow the red / aqua trail to the top (you'll know when you're there)

Great views and a great hike that's a workout! I parked at the Stonetown Recreation Complex down the road then picked up the Stonetown Circular Trail a little ways down across the street. This trail eventually leads to the Highlands Trail which brings you to the beautiful views. I found that parking at the complex and picking up the red and white blazed Stonetown Circular Trail worked best because my car was off the road and I didn't have to walk further down to pick up the Highlands Trail; Stonetown road can get busy.

Short, very steep, hike to some spectacular views. Remember to find the descent and go to the real peak!

You won't get much of a break from the steady climb upwards but the views are great.
