Zealand Falls and the views that come with this ascent make the wooded summit of this mountain easy to swallow for Northeast Peakbaggers. Zealand mountain is located on the edge of the Pemigewasset Wilderness. You will pass by a beautiful AMC hut and Zealand Falls on the way to the wooded summit. The falls are definitely worth a stop at on the way up. You will have some views of the Bond Range near the top through the trees.

Completed our AMC patch collection with this family hike and stay at the hut this past summer. Loved the dip in the falls and the AM hike to the summit with the most beautiful views. Happened to be the hottest day of the year but worth it!

Beautiful all the way, great fall color, interesting creeks flowing down rocks. Lots of other people, for a Monday, with dogs that were not leashed. That was the only negative for me. Would like to do it again as I was not able to get to the cliffs due to allergies kicking my butt. And folks, please follow the leash laws!!!

Amazing hike up to Hut then to Zeacliff viewpoint. Very strenuous after the hut but worth it as the view was stunning especially with the fall foliage! Took our family less than 6 hours including time to enjoy view, eat lunch, etc. to do the 8 miles RT. We decided not to go to the summit as they mentioned there are no views there.

Hike in to the hut is beautiful and easy with ponds and turning leaves. From there, a pretty steep mile before another gentle mile and a half over to the summit. No views today with clouds, but a beautiful trail and fun hike!

I would rate this somewhere between a 3-4. Not sure that I would set out to do it again, nor would I be dead set against it. It’s a long hike, I logged around 12 miles, took me a little over 6 hours. The hike starts out very flat and easy, all of the elevation comes in the next mile and a half after the hut. Not much to see after the cliffs, so unless peakbagging, feel free to head back after the cliffs if you want to keep it around and 8 mile hike

have done Zealand falls and it was amazing hoping to do zeacliff too.

Beautiful trail, nice and flat in the beginning. Also flat up top. Runs along a river and water falls for much of the way. There is a view where the sign points to it, but at the summit there are no views. For this recording, you also go 5-10 minutes after where it says you’re done (the red line randomly stops in the middle of the trail). You then go off the trail and take a right, and you’ll see the summit with the cairn and the Zealand sign within 2-3 minutes. A good hike and the views are just as good if you stop at the designated view spot!

Loved this trail. Fantastic scenery and beautiful views. We were pleasantly surprised and it was our favorite hike thus far of the 4K footers. Despite being August we were quite chilly. The weather had weird bouts of sun and torrential down pours. Total book time was 6 hours.

Ending at the Zealand Falls hut and sitting in the stream is the highlight, but beautiful scenery the entire hike!

One of the best hikes I've ever done considering it's a 4K, has ponds, bridges, the falls, the cliff, the sign and a Moose! Definitely a difficult hike, not moderate. Was surprised to see so many people. Met at least 4 coming from Georgia. If I had to do it over I would save this and do a backpack with the Bonds for an epic trip!

Stunning views at Zeacliff and I love the trail for its little boardwalks. Starts to get a bit steep after the hut.

Very scenic trail with a spectacular view at Zeacliff. It’s an easy trail until the last .1 miles to the hut. Fairly steep past the hut all the way until Zeacliff, but no scrambling required. I didn’t make it to the summit since it was hot and I was running low on water (left with 2L at the hut), but there aren’t any views there so unless you’re doing the 48 list, turning around after the viewpoint makes for a great outing.

Arrived at trailhead around 8:30am on July 4 and the lot was just about full. You have to pay $5 per day to park here. Although hot and humid, the good amount of tree cover below the ridge made for a pleasant day. If you need to refill water or buy a cookie, Zealand Falls Hut is a great place :) All water crossings were easy. Bugs weren’t too bad in the morning, but got worse as the day went on... deet helped. Very easy trek up to the Hut. The bog bridges up on Twinway above the hut were surrounded by water, but stepping on them one person at a time was best to make sure you didn’t sink in. You HAVE to stop at Zeacliff for amazing views (look for the “view” signs up on Twinway). The 0.1 mile trek on Zealand Spur to the summit is marked with a sign on the tree.

Hiked May 18, 2019, no snow at base, lots of snow at elevation. Currently the trail at elevation is a skinny monorail and very deep and soft snow on the sides, all this while being in the tree tops near the summit. Overall it is a solid moderate hike, any real steep sections are short, and the first two miles are flat. I plan on doing it again. The views from zeacliff are fantastic. Took 5.5 hours

If it’s winter time. Be prepared to add 8 miles if the gate to Zealand rd isn’t open. Other than that I loved it! It challenged me right to the last step. Views were incredible at the look out. Zealand hut is nothing less than extraordinary. Can’t wait to tackle this in the summer!

Super easy trail up to Zealand Falls Hut. Along this first 2.8 miles you travel gentle grades as it follows an old rail road bed. Upon entering the beaver pond area wildlife is abundant and the landscape is draped it beautiful autumn colors! The next 1.3 miles to Zeacliff is much steeper with many large boulders to work around. There is even a ladder to scale your way up a very steep almost vertical granite wall. The view from Zeacliff is amazing. From here you can see Mt. Washington in the distance with the distinct round hump of Mt. Eisenhower in the foreground. Mt. Carrigain towers into the sky and if you use binoculars you can even see the firetower on the summit. You also get a view of the rugged cliffs of Whitewall Mountain with Ethan Pond just beyond. As I continued on, bog bridges helped keep things dry as I passed through the col between Zeacliff and onward and upward to the summit of Zealand Mountain 1.6 miles from Zeacliff. Although the summit is treed in it is still a great trip, and a cool summit sign! I read where others described the trip from the cliff to the summit as boring or nondescript, I did not find this to be the case. On this final leg of the ascent there is yet another marked view point and you can take a side trip to the shores of Zealand Pond. There are also much rare plant growth and wildlife along the way. Overall a great day out and another 4K conquered!!! Took me 6 hours total with approx. 1-1/2 hours of breaks & exploration.

Super fun and my Australian cattle dog had a lot of fun too. Pretty steep after you go past the hut but it’s well worth the view.
