The view from the summit is overlooking the town of Rumney. This is not East or West Rattlesnake that overlooks Squam Lake. Some of the pictures in this post show Squam Lake. This was a nice short hike but is steep in a few sections with a lot of leaves down for slippery areas. Overall a cute family hike.

This trail near where I live, so this is my go to conditioning hike. Although short, this hike is quite steep and rocky in many places.

Hiked this last week solo right before sunset. Not much of a view except a few hills and some windmills in the background. Parking may be difficult to find on a busy day.

Family of four from Texas, so not much mountain hiking experience. Kids are 8 and 15. Very well marked path (yellow rectangles on trees or rocks). Most of the hike is straight up so just pace your self and stop when needed. When you get to the loop on top I recommend going left (clockwise), it will make the climb to the top easier. It took us 3.5 hours with plenty of sitting breaks. A few snacks to enjoy at the top is a good idea with kids. The "parking lot" is very small...like two cars wide small. We drove down past the trail head sign about 100 feet and found another little notch in the road to park. Not sure if there is more parking beyond that. Street parking does not seem possible.

Be careful not to confuse this hike with the East Rattlesnake Trail in Holderness, NH. The photo showing Squam Lake, as shown for this trail, is actually taken from the summit of East Rattlesnake Trail.

Nice trail. Pretty difficult- a straight up hike for most of the trail up to the summit loop section. Great for birdwatching! Saw several bird of prey soaring at the summit. Views were beautiful and continued on the trail for a good stretch. Moderately trafficked- we saw 6 other groups along our hike including a kids camp and group of mountain bikers. A good hike to get you sweating!

Short but rewarding. You do earn it getting to the top as it feels like you are walking straight up...no back and forth to ease the elevation change. Views are nice at the top. Others spoke of the bugs and I am a bug magnet. However today we sprayed for them and they were a non factor. We enjoyed the top so it took us about 2 hours round trip.

Limited parking, dog friendly.. great views. Definitely plan to build up a sweat first 0.5mi I'd a quick gain!

Great hike. I’ve been doing this one since I was a kid. This time was a little tough though. We got destroyed by mosquitoes and it was very muddy. The trail could use some maintenance. Some branches hanging in the trail and downed trees. Very very muddy and buggy. It might be a tough one for dogs. There’s a rocky scramble near the end that smaller pups might need a bit of help getting up. Overall pretty good though.

This trail was an intense one-shot uphill to the loop trail part. I found the hike to be very enjoyable besides that first part - which is also very wet and buggy with mosquitos in particular. No ticks on me. The views are incredible at the top.

Took my sister and I one hour 25 minutes round trip. Agree with previous review to take right fork of loop both for view and trail.

Great first hike of this. 1hr 20 minutes round trip. 40 up. (44 yr old dad w/ 10 yr old boy) both of us were huffing and puffing on the reasonably steep uphill. Fantastic views at the top overlooking Rumney and east towards Plymouth.

Really nice and easy trail. It took us not more than 30 min to get to the top and the view is spectacular. The parking is a bit hard to find since the sign is small and wooden attached to a tree. There was some traffic on the trail but not too much- I went on a week day and it was after Labour Day, so maybe that made the difference. Looking forward to going back there soon.

I hiked on a weekday as I've been told weekends are very busy and hard to find parking. I did not see anyone the way up and just at the bottom I ran into a family. The view was breathtaking at the top. I suggest if you are hiking the loop when you get to the fork in the trail go to the right it will set you up for the exciting view at the top. It was a bit buggy near the top.

Great short trail! Pretty steep most of the way up, make sure to wear good boots, especially for the descent. The view from the summit was well worth the work!
