almost immediate rewarding views. narrow trail becomes steep and rocky. cool outcrop of boulders with potholes which lends an awesome view. good mix of forest, ledges, scrambles, and boulders. i for one really enjoy some element of climbing on a trail and this didn't disappoint. summit is the expected pile of rocks noteable for this section of the Whites. 360° views. it was just a bit hazy the day I was there, but that added to the beauty of the layering mountains on the vista. a perfect first official weekend of fall hike with a sprinkling of color and a delightful wind to add to the feel of the summit. the entire trip took about 6 hours, but I tend to stop often to take in views, take photos, and I sit on the summit for about 20-30 minutes. gotta have a snack and do some summit sitting!

Great, varied terrain through woods at first and then mostly rocks. The rock climbs aren't long, but I wanted to stay close to my 8 yr-old on the steepest. Many impressive views along the way. Challenging, but fine for pretty active kids too.

Wonderful and demanding hike. A lot of scrambling while getting closer to the top. Don't expect any rest when returning through Castle Trail being as rocky (and windy) as the ascent on Caps Ridge, but the view is amazing and very rewarding. The Link is a forest trail, up and down all the time in roots, rocks and moss.
