The trail starts off through a beautiful hardwood forest with an open feel with out any leaves on the trees. The grade begins as a steady, gentle incline and never gets very steep. At 3,000 feet the hard woods are replaced by evergreens, creating a cozy feel as you approach the summit of Starr King. The best views are from Starr King to the south overlooking a vast plain and the entire Presidential Range. The trail continues on at the large stone fireplace left from a former shelter. The summit of Waumbek is wooded, but the walk over from Starr King is beautiful. Winter parking is in two expansion lots just to the east and west of Starr King Road on Rt 2. https://goo.gl/maps/Qjf7RvwDb7R2TGCv5 The parking area is not plowed and you should not block Starr King Rd.

Great snow hike. Trail is well packed but most are still using snow shoes. We wore spikes and it was fine. Minimal to non-existent ice on trail. Beautiful and glad we did it!

Great first time winter hike. Trails were packed down but definitely icy- microspikes the whole way. Cooler temps at the top but no wind today. Lots of dogs greeted us along the way.

Great hike. The trail is clearly marked and is a steady ascent the entire way up. Micro-spikes needed the entire way up and down. The parking lot was open.

Hiked this trail on 12/26/2019. Packed down snow, only microspikes are needed. It is a popular trail with limited parking. The view at Mt. Starr King is very nice. You can see Mt. Washington in a clear blue sky day. There is another view point once you arrive the peak at Waumbek, just pass that pile of rocks and walk for less than a minute, you will see. Pretty much the same view as you see earlier at Starr King, but the hike from Starr King to Waumbek was super nice with snow on the trees. Overall, this trail has very steady incline and is protected by the trees from the weather. A good start for winter hiking in the white mountains.

Nice moderate hike on a light -snowy but mild day. Temps in high 20's - low 30's. Bare-booted the first half, then snowshoes in a couple of inches of fresh. Nobody out today except a few hunters. The trail is in good shape- a few wet spots but nothing major.

Beautiful hike with Dan. This was our 19th NH 4,000 footer. Cold and windy, but not bad on the trail. Only needed microspikes, snow on trail was packed and not very deep. Lots of people hiking today!

The trail is perfect for running and sledding. Wore microspikes the entire way and ran most of the trail once I hit Mt. Starr King on the way up without feeling any risk of a potential wipeout. No views but the trees were incredibly beautiful. Was the second car in the lot at 8:15 am but it was full of cars by the time I returned three hours later.

Waumbek is a spectacular trail, especially for an easy winter 4ker. It’s up from the get go, but never too steep. Just micro spikes needed for equipment. Pretty quick up and down, and Jefferson is awesome on a clear day. Nine to go!

Trail was a gradual incline; perfect for the very wet conditions today. Very little in the way of views while on the trail, but the drive in was magnificent! As others have said, walk just past Waumbek’s summit cairn to see a ridge view. Our favorite part was the change from hardwood forest lower down (with lots of green ferns, grass, moss) to all evergreen up top.

We did this on a drizzly-light rain day to check it off the 4000 fters list. Was slow incline which made for a long hike up and though speed wise we were faster coming down, it didnt feel like it. No views from the top, even at the look out that was just past the summit cairn, but we were also surprised by no actual summit sign or official marker. Glad that one is done! We have it on our list for potential snow hikes, but wont be at the the very top of the list.

Easiest of the 48, 4,000 footers. Nice view of the presidentials from just beyond the peak. Started foggy. Clouds lifted to reveal a beautiful October day. 60° at the trail head at the end of the hike. Very easy
