Weather wasn't great so we had no view at the top. Steep in some sections but otherwise, great hike! We had spikes. Trail was actually pretty mushy on the way down from the rain/snow we got during the hike.

As Amy said, the “getting there” is wrong. Follow the gps of the trailhead. First things first. Just finished and AllTrails reads 9.1 miles, and we didn’t detour. The trail is nice, the first few miles are wide and flat- like an part of old service road. You get a little incline and reach an intersection and sign for Bald Peak to the right, and Kinsman ridge go left. We went another quarter mile or so and came to a large boulder in the trail, that was iced over. There were no tracks beyond it. Up to this point, we weren’t using traction, just poles, and the trail was well established. We managed past the boulder and another mile or two without traction- just careful footing and strong trust in the poles. Eventually as we came to the steep inclines to the summit, we caved and put full crampons on. Good micro spikes might work- but we were making the tracks- so stepping through 6-12” of powder before hitting ice, and your spikes might ball up. The summit was pretty strenuous, I was definitely out of breath. But it was well worth it, and the views were clear with no wind. A big downside was that descending with crampons or any traction was miserable. Since there’s no monorail at all- the trail has A LOT of rocks and exposed roots that are hidden under powder. So traction was constantly catching on something, almost like post-holing, and putting a lot of torque on my ankles. They don’t feel good right now. Once we got down to the initial boulder, we took off our crampons and finished our without traction, without issue. For winter conditions, I would say poles are a must, and recommend full crampons- but you might get away with spikes- especially if the trail gets packed down at all, but as we were blazing it, I’m happy we went with crampons. Good luck!

Moderate hike but after 2,.5 miles , we still didn’t find the views . A previous review commented that it’s is close to 5.6 miles total so anyone planning to get to the peak should plan for a 5.6 mile and not 4.4 .

Nice trail for all ages. Beautiful ledge at the top with great views especially during foliage season. Dog and kid friendly.

We chose this trail due to its moderate rating. We have a small dog and an older husky and we didn’t want a trail that would be too difficult for them. Thanks for other reviews we decided this was the perfect option. We and our dogs made it up just fine although a little winded. The views at bald peak were gorgeous and a perfect spot to sit and soak up some sun and rest before trekking back down. Highly recommended for those who want a slightly challenging hike but nothing too difficult. Great trail for dogs with plenty of streams to drink from.

Franconia is great. This is a mostly shaded ascent with a small bald top. Watch for gliders soar overhead at the summit. Great family hike.

Decent hike. Gets pretty steep, and isn’t the most scenic until the very top. Nice little waterfalls along the way; but there are many better hike around this area.

Definitely would say this is moderate easy, but there are a couple of steep sections and the mud made the trail a little difficult. Overall the effort is worth it as the summit has a spectacular view.
