This trail is well marked & VERY steep!- there is also a marked side trip along the way (beginning) you can check out some old Lyme Kilns - hence the name Lyme Kiln Rd where the trail head is located - they are a marked historic sight.

Very icy, made it about 3/4 the way but one of us didn’t have spikes so we decided to turn.

This trail was amazing! Although it was VERY steep, it was doable steep. No rock scrambling, no sheer granite, just steep through the woods. Very icy and snowy. Spikes were needed from the car to the summit and back again. It is more then 3.3 miles rt. It is 1.9 miles to the summit and if you take a detour to see the Lyme kilns then add a little extra for that. We didn’t get a view but that’s ok because I went up the other trail this summer and got a beautiful view at that time.

Beautiful hike as always however the little bit of snow does not offer sufficient grip versus the ice running down the rocky sections. Bring spikes and go slow.

Like climbing a lighthouse. Steep stairs that go on for two hours. But the view is totally worth it.

A bit difficult but definitely worth it. The view is just gorgeous! The inclines can be a bit much if you’re not used to it but since it’s not heavily trafficked there’s plenty of places to rest.

Thoroughly enjoyable hike. As suggested, we diverted to find the old kilns. Had to wander around a little before we found them; there are no signs after the initial arrow. Trail starts off gradual but soon gets rather steep all the way to the summit. Several sections of ledge near the top offer great views in almost all directions. The foliage was further along than we expected and was quite stunning from the summit. Had lunch facing Mt Moosilauke watching several hawks glide by. Great hiking day.

The parking is limited so get there early. The hike itself was very enjoyable. Not too slippery, but a little in a couple areas. Appreciate the pines through the steep section. It made that section rather enjoyable. The Kilns are to the left when you pop out to the service road and then a right before the field. The kids had a good time.

A nice quiet hike. I was the only one on the trail in a Saturday morning. It was steep for about a mile of it but the rest of it was gradual.

Great quick hike. If you love being immersed in a granite and scrub spruce summit ascent, this will make you smile. Enjoy

Excellent trail for a short quick intense hike. Went with my 13 and 6 yo sons and both really enjoyed it. The climb is intense but no problem if your in good shape. The 6yo. Definitely needed some breaks but was capable and confident on the climb. The views are outstanding with bald face rock in many places. Also quick a few areas for some rock scrambling and climbing fun as you go around the summit. We took our time and explored and spent close to four hours.

Great hike to get the blood pumping. 90% stair climber.

Excellent hike to get the blood pumping. Starts off relatively easy (and the side trip to see the lime kilns is definitely worth it) but quickly becomes a pretty much constant steep incline. The best part of the hike is the variety of scenery you get and the multiple outlooks with a view you get before the actual summit. Blazed relatively well, but pay attention because there are parts where it is easy to get off track. Parking area is small (can fit maybe 4 cars if everyone parks correctly) with some additional parking along the road. The parking area isn't well marked and your GPS will probably take you to the private road to the kilns, so keep your eyes peeled for the small pull out.

Beautiful trail that descends first on wood log steps to a couple brook crossings . Ascends steadily through deciduous forest, red pine and then rock and fir Lots of outlooks for rest stops

Hiked with my 7 and 11 year old. This trail was not hard and I would suggest it being reclassified as moderate. Fairly typical NH hike. I wouldn't call it steep. It was mostly moderate except for one section directly below the ridge line. Views are great but don't just drop your bag at the end of the trail. Walk to the right get good views of the Connecticut River Valley, and Vermont. Go left for views of the Kinsman Range with the Flume peaking behind, and really good views Moosiluake. If you keep heading down the East side of the mountain there is a pretty big Boulder just sitting on a ledge. The Alltrails mileage is wrong. The posted distance is 1.9 up and down for a total of 3.8. I think I ended up with over 4 miles which included exploring the peak. Overall it was a good hike. I would definitely do again.

Decent amount of ice and mud on the trail still, few blowdowns and a bit of snow after last night/this morning as well. Cool and windy but mostly clear at the top, didn’t see another person the whole time.

This is a tough trail with patches of ice and almost a direct route up the mountain. We cleared some branches off the trail where it looks like logging was performed. This is definitely a technical trail.

This trail was really fun and very steep. I thought I’d summited three times before actually reaching the summit. The views are incredible. The trail is well marked.
