Long cascading waterfall with many small pools - best in spring and early summer. Easy trail ascend through hardwoods and along brook. You will have some small steep sections but overall this trail is easy - an excellent hike with kids and dogs. The waterfall is very beautiful but is best seen in the spring and early summer when the water is running best. It tends to dry up in the late summer and fall. This might be a good winter hike.

I've done this trail several times before and it's always enjoyable. Microspikes the whole way up and definitely needed especially on the exposed rocky summit where there is anything from bare rocks to deep snow drifts to glare ice. Used snowshoes on the descent from the junction with the Piper Trail as it allows me to snowshoe glissade and is easier IMO than bare boots or spikes. But could definitely use spikes the whole way if preferred. Wild winds at the summit blowing 40-50+ mph that nearly blew me off the summit rock. Still a nice hike overall!

Trail was well packed snow but micro spikes are a good idea. Just did an out and back to Champney Falls this time as I was short on time. The frozen falls are awesome and this is an ice climbing spot for those that partake in such daring pursuits. Please pay the $5 fee for parking or purchase a yearly White Mountains National Forest parking pass available at ranger stations to support the maintenance of the trails and parking areas.

Phenomenal hike. I've hiked both the Piper Trail and this one up Chocorua, and Champney is by far the better of the two. Autumn scenery was beautiful, the trail well-marked and maintained, and a nice excuse to drive up the Kanc.

Great hike. If you are in shape this is not difficult. Take time at the top. Not good in wet weather or when the is a chance for ice. 2.5 hours up. Waterfalls are nice and were flowing in mid October. If you do the loop back to the lot (beeline to Bolles) expect another 4 hours and many steep climbs and descents. Bolles trail is not blazed and sometimes difficult to follow when there are leaves on the ground. I do not recommend this loop I would have gone back down same trail I climbed.

My friend and I got to the trail head around 12pm and finished the hike by 4:30pm. The hike up was definitely tiring with incline just about the whole way, but like everyone else says SO WORTH IT! The views are so special and breath taking. Took about 2 and a half hours to get up, 30 minutes at the summit and an hour hike down. Beautiful this time of year with the array of foliage!

Nice trail. Excellent views at the top. The last .4 miles were a little tough, steep scramble, cairns were a little small. Would definitely go back!

As others have said, a beautiful view at the summit! Takes some scrambling to get there but well worth it. I started at 7am and was able to beat the foot traffic and enjoy a quiet lunch. The waterfalls were a little dried up but still very cool to see the manmade rock walls! Overall a great hike!!

Wow! I mean, that’s all I can say! Ok, more.....land of stairs. Waterfalls were dry but it is to be expected this time of year and the fact that we haven’t had much rain. For me, this was a difficult hike, but the views were out of this world! The view of the actual summit is breathtaking and nerve wracking! Lots of rock scrambling (be prepared for that)...don’t go in bad weather and be prepared for lots and lots of people! There were more people here than when I hiked Monadnock. Go on a beautiful day and have fun.

Great hike - 7.2 miles up and back, 3-1/2 hours total Windy and cool at the summit. Became busier on return leg, especially near the falls.

Wow! Great hike with awesome views from the peak. We are not a particularly fit couple... around 50 years old, and essentially novice hikers. We try to walk every day and enjoy moderate hikes up to 2 hours. We allowed ourselves the entire day to climb Chocorua, starting from the Champney Falls Trailhead at 10 am. It took just over 3 hours to get to the top of the mountain, and a little less than that to get back down. Some rock climbing was involved at the cap because the yellow flashes are few and far between, so you essentially try your luck picking access points to move up. It takes some trial and error to find a route that works for your particular abilities. There were all sorts of people that managed to reach the top the same day we did. Younger kids, experienced octogenarians, etc. The views from the peak were simply spectacular, and I strongly encourage anyone who is hesitant about this trail to give it a go. Even if you chicken out on the final ascent, the views are already awesome from under the peak... But once you're there you should find a way to the very top, with the help of whoever you bring along.

Took me three hours up including via the waterfalls, and almost the same time down because of the steep, slippery switchbacks. Great variety of terrain, and it was nice to do on a Friday as I didn’t see anyone after the waterfalls until the summit stretch. You definitely have to keep an eye out for the trail in the final rocky stretch part though.

Overall it was a fun hike. On Piper trail near summit, it was hard to locate trail markers and many were climbing non- standard path It will be a tricky trail above tree line on a windy day or rainy condition. I'd go back for lovely view from summit area.

Great hike. Amazing views and fun scramble getting to the summit. Only issue is a lot of people not leashing their dogs. This can create a lot of issues with other hikers and their dogs that are on leash as they should be. Some dogs are not friendly with other dogs. So when your unleashed dog runs into the face of a non-dog friendly properly leashed dog the leashed dog feels defenseless and acts out aggressively. I know some people would say don’t bring the dog if it isn’t friendly but my dog is controlled by the leash, so the unleashed dog defeats the purpose of my control measure. Just food for thought.

This was a really enjoyable hike! I would definitely rate it moderate maybe even moderately hard because of the overall distance but the summit was well worth the effort with a 360 degree view. I will say to take your time on the last 1/3 of a mile to the summit as the actual trail can be hard to determine.
