With this route, you'll spend more time exposed on the lower slopes; which means it'll be hot in the summer daytime. This route is also used by wranglers giving horseback rides from Spring Mountain State Park and Bonnie Springs, so you'll have plenty of company on this trail. Once you walk up the rich red soil and drop down behind the hill, you'll be in the area called the "haunted canyon". This is a wonderful spot, full of beauty and solitude (except on weekends), and the best part is you still have the creek ahead of you. There are many shady trees and great boulders for picnic spots, just be sure to haul your trash out with you.

The trail was a lot of fun to do in the snow. lucky for us we had a husky to guide us down random animal trails on the back side near the creek.

If you're taking your pup, STAY ON TRAIL. My guy got stuck with various cacti and I felt incredibly guilty for thinking I didn't need his boots. All in all, it was a good trail. Nothing too strenuous, I ended up doing about 6 miles on various trail legs. Lots of options. Great views of the mountains.

A freebie if you don’t want to pay the park fee. Very rocky well marked trail till you get pass the wilderness area sign, if you follow the wash you will get a nice upper body workout & refine your route finding skills. Leaning going left the trail ends at a mostly dry waterfall, but a rope & sketchy trail looks to keep going onward

Just a few tips- it’s been a really wet winter here so the trail forces you to cross a running creek almost right away (maybe 6-12inches of water as of 3/6/19.) It can be a bit confusing to start off but just keep heading toward the mountain and don’t go off on side trails at the beginning. Also- lots of broken glass in random areas so be careful for dog’s paws! All in all a totally pleasant hike and a great choice when Red Rock is closed for weather.

Fabulous hike! Met a local half way through named Donz, great guy and really knew his stuff. Such a pleasure. Loved the stream and all the animal tracks. also got to see a lot of snow covering areas that normally melt.

Beautiful trail. A little muddy in places and sometimes hard to navigate, but never felt lost. Easy to moderate. There was a dusting of snow in some areas which enhanced the hike.

Only hiked out about a mile out before turning around. The terrain is rocky with larger rocks so you're looking at your feet the whole time. Didn't care for it. We went to First Trail and really enjoyed that one.

Great views, wild burros, and a somewhat challenging trail. Wouldn't be my first recommendation for a tourist, but it's free and that counts for something.

Great hike, dog friendly and very fun. A bit rough with all the loose rocks on trail but overall great

I took my daughter to this hike and she was not impressed, there are a lot of rocks on the trail, this makes it less enjoyable.
