We snowshoed this and it was a blast! Starting from the Big Mountain main lodge, there’s a hard-to-spot trail to the right that immediately takes you through a tunnel that goes under the road. Continue on for another half mile until you reach a lake. At this point there are a network of Nordic trails of different levels going in all directions. We did (in order) Moosehoof, Badger Loop, Whitefish Trail (ungroomed), and back on Moosehoof. Then when we got back to the lodge, we continued snowshoeing up the main run under chairlift 6 until we reached the upper lodge where we are staying. All told it was about 7 miles. A very serene, beautiful trip for anybody who enjoys snowshoeing or cross country skiing! Note—dogs aren’t allowed on about half of the trails.

We followed the map above for hiking.... we frequently checked the map to see if we were on the right trail. We didn't see a single sign that indicated we were on George's Gorge. Instead the entire trail followed a trail called Journey. We saw heaps of Deer on the trail and fresh rip raspberries as well as bear skat. Be bear aware when hiking this trail. It wasn't difficult at all, perhaps longer then anticipated. Seemed also to be a lot longer then 4.5 km. However we were also hiking and each carrying 45lb and 50lb children. Beautiful forested trail with some great views and a small pond.

I hiked Big Mountain in late spring early summer and I found it quite difficult. Great scenery almost the entire way, but couldn't reach the summit due to snow.

This trail is a little bumpy, and lot's of blind corners, you pick up speed really fast even though it isn't that steep. Be moderately cautious as it is next to the main run (caribou) so skiers and snowboarders like to jump in at different spots. It's best in January-February (in my opinion).
