Leaving from the refuge headquarters, this out-and-back trail features signs with interesting facts about the local wildlife such as wood ducks, cottonmouths, white-tailed deer and woodpeckers. The trail joins with a boardwalk that takes hikers to a large bald-cypress tree and observation deck over the bayou. In that area, benches provide an excellent spot to bird watch or listen to the sounds of nature.

This is a nice trail in the Bayou Cocodrie NWR. There are two other trails. one is maybe a half mile long (roundtrip) and leads to an observation deck looking over the marshes/wetlands. And the other is approximately three miles. We haven't done the three mile trail, but the other two are great for bringing small ones on a short day hike (you can do both in one day). All three trails are out and backs. I don't have any pics, but I can post some later when that area dries up enough to hike it.
