This trail leaves the backpacker's parking area at Koomer Ridge Campground and follows a dry wooded ridge northeast to Silvermine Arch, a natural arch with a large waterfall below the cliff. A spur trail leads back to Koomer Ridge Campground.

I really enjoyed this trail. Wasn’t very difficult I’d consider this “easy” the only part that was actually strenuous was the massive staircase on the way back which was literally just stairs. The arch at the end of the trail was really a neat formation. Strongly recommend the koomer ridge campground if you’re not feeling up for the various rustic spots in the gorge because there is plenty of privacy and lots of space for tent camping at the sites.

Very nice hike. Aside from the staircase, it’s really not difficult. Pretty view before you descend the stairs, then a nice walk through rhododendrons and forest.

A lovely stroll through the woods and very empty along the way. Some fun scrambles down rocks and natural steps to get to the arch and very neat rock wall that you can have fun exploring. Felt like it’s own magical little world to me.

I hiked it from the campground end making it shorter but still a pretty good workout. Almost 400 ft decent and then back up, but the big open arch and waterfall grotto is delightful. Trail ends at the arch though. Impassable beyond, so prepare to climb back up the 75 step staircase! Pleasant in Fall!

The trail was pretty easy, I’m almost 8 months pregnant and I was able to complete it with no issues. Trail was covered in mosquitoes. Trail had t been used in awhile but it pretty quick hike pretty until you get to the arch/cave and the stairs. Kids friendly, preggo friendly as well.

reason for 4 star is because it doesn't have a waterfall but there is a arch and rocks the end of the trail

The arch at the end of the trail was a pleasant surprise, nice size and shape. It has a nice alcove on the backside. This is a moderate trail though just before the arch is a 79 step staircase to the bottom of the arch.

Beautiful trail that has a little bit of everything, we started on the cliffs trail and soaked in some stunning views of the gorge. Brought our 10 month puppy who did well for the most part be cautious there is definitely some drop offs with some stretches of the trail close to the edge. Well worth the quick steep stairs case for the views!

Stunning arch. Long staircases, but manageable.

This is an amazing hike! Do not let the easy start fool you! There is stairs, sketchy half spiral boxy? Stairs. Steep footings down, coming back up I definitely felt more secure! I’m 46 in moderate shape I found it mildly challenging. Other hikers brought children, personally I wouldn’t but be the judge of your children’s abilities. But I highly recommend this because the arch is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever witnessed!

Easy hike down which was perfect for our three year old. We went after a day of heavy rain so we expected to see a waterfall, but there was not a waterfall at the end of this trail. Just rocks with a few drips of water coming off of them. Pretty disappointing.

The hike down is fun and the arch is more of a cave than anything. The hike back was pretty exhausting, be ready to sweat a bit on this one.

I really enjoyed this trail. Being able to jump on right behind our campsite made the Koomer Ridge prices well worth it. I hiked it multiple times during our stay. On a particularly hot day, I sought refuge by climbing up some rocks into a damp shaded spot not far from the silvermine arch. Only 3 ppl passed me in 3 hours on a nice weekend so I don't think it is too heavily trafficked. The arch itself was beautiful and calm, with just steady drips and no falls. Easy to do some careful off-trail climbing to explore a bit. The trip back up can be brutal at the end of a day of hiking though. I am a fairly fit dude and there was one time where I had to take that giant staircase very slowly bc my body was quite frustrated at what I was asking it to do. That said, there are more strenuous hikes in the area and I saw a group of folks who looked to be in their 60s (and fit) handle it fine. Totally worth it. I can't wait to go back when more is in bloom.

Would be better after some rain- it's been dry for a while, so the falls were non-existent.

Really liked this trail once it was in the deep forest.

The arch is worth the Stairs!

*I will preface this by saying that the hike to the arch is easy, but the hike back is of a more moderate difficulty due to the series of uphill climbs and super long set of stairs. This is a great little day hike that begins right at Koomer Ridge Campground. The first half of the hike stays very near the outskirts of the campground, taking you past the amphitheater and several campsites. at about the midpoint, there is an east-facing overlook that is great for sunrises and lunch stops. The trail then begins a decent beginning with a rather long staircase. The remainder of the trail takes you through lush rhododendron stands. The arch is very shaded and mossy. When water levels allow, there is a nice waterfall feature. There are also several boulders to climb around on. Overall, a nice hike with varying terrains and points of interest along the way!

This trail is off of the koomer ridge campground. It is a fairly easy trail that isn't that scenic until you get to the arch. That being said, no hike is a bad hike.
