Great places to camp on the West end of the lake. The lake itself is pristine; however, as far as I could tell there were no fish. Also, this makes for a good base camp if you want to take your children and extend day hikes through the surrounding area.

Very dusty in summer. Nice, easy walk to lakeside primitive campsites.

This was a wonderful hike and a beautiful lake. I think the other reviewers who wrote about the uphill climbs went in from the Tin Cup trailhead by the campground of Pettit. If you use the trailhead from this app is is a very easy hike that matches the elevation gain of the post. I wouldn't classify this exact hike as a loop because the other side of it is a road. I also wouldn't classify this side of it as Moderate. It is very easy and would be great for children or beginners. If you access Yellow Belly from the Tin Cup trailhead it has much more of a climb (900 ish feet elevation gain) and would be more like a moderate-ish hike.

There are a few downed trees you'll have to walk over or scoot under but the trail is in good shape. It's a little mucky down at the end making it hard to get to the shore there but lots of opportunities along the way. I had this trail to myself at 6pm on a Sunday. Took the out and back rather than looping back on the road to stay close to the lake. Registered just over 4 miles. For photography best light would be in the morning.

Great hike but couldn't find a trail that went all the way to the shore of yellow belly. Had to go off trail quite a ways to get to the lake.

Beautiful, peaceful somewhat challenging uphill hike. A little over 5 miles though not 4.2. I thought I was lost briefly when the mileage wasn't matching up. The water temperature was perfect this time of year too.

The hike was great...has quite a climb but well worth it!! About 3/4 of the way we came into a short little snow storm. But the end result was amazing! Found a nice campground right off lake and woke up to an amazing sunrise and a layer of fog atop the lake.

A quick 5-mile out and back from the Pettitt Lake trailhead. It's a good cardio workout with steep start toward the lake and gradual climb on the return. It's easy to hike to Yellow Belly and the lake is really pretty and quiet. Next time I'll hike in for the day and picnic/lounge there.
