Really fun! Takes you through some pretty diverse areas. Fantastic views towards the end. Was worth the hour in and out on bumpy gravel roads. Thank you to all the previous reviewers who told us to park at the boat ramp!

After reading the previous review, we went straight to the boat dock and parked. Great moderate hike up to the tower. From the parking lot to the tower, I clocked 4.6 miles round trip. Trail is nice and marked. Beautiful day on Grassy Mtn!

There is a slight problem with the AllTrails Google Map directions to this destination. Google maps will take you to the trailhead located in the camp ground. There is no parking there for day hikers. You can use the Google Maps directions but instead of turning into the camp ground follow the directions to the boat ramp. It is well marked. The boat ramp parking is easy to find. From the parking there is a short trail down to the lake trail. You can follow it by going either left or right. From the point where you pick it up it is shorter going to the left. Note that there are no restroom facilities at the boat ramp parking but there is a nice restroom in the campground. (Which closes for the season at the end of October by the way.) The trail to the tower is made up of old logging roads and connecting trails. Just before the summit you will connect with the old Fire Warden's road. The trail is never really steep but once past the second left to the Song Bird trail it climbs pretty consistently to the top. The footing is a little rocky in some places but is generally pretty good. Solitude is the word of the day. My dog Aska and I saw no one at all, neither on the trail nor at the trailhead. It's been a long time since we've done a hike without seeing anyone. In addition to the solitude the trail offers a lake, an optional beaver pond and 360 views from the old Fire Tower. The upper deck is locked but you can go up to the small landing below the top. On the way back we took the optional Song Bird Loop which took us past the beaver pond. The total distance for the hike with the optional Song Bird Loop was 5.1 miles. Note that when driving to the destination there are eleven miles of gravel road (22 round trip) which is easily passable with a two wheel drive sedan but which should be taken with care. It is generally wide enough for passing on coming cars and while steep, not particularly dangerous. There are a few pot holes and a bit of washboard in places but all in all the road right now is in pretty good condition. The upside is that the gravel road is probably one reason for the solitude. Yes it worth the drive.

Awesome trail. Great diversity. Long drive on gravel roads. Lots of fire ants around the fire tower. 5/5 would definitely hike again.

Allow yourself at least an hour, one way for travel as this road twists and turns for 11 miles before getting to the trail head.

This was a GREAT hike with GREAT views. Would definitely do it again. Only downside is you can’t access the top of the lookout tower. Highly recommend!!

Been going to the lake my whole life and always wanted to hike this trail.... did it today!!! It is uphill to the tower and you can walk up the stairs to the first landing for a good view. The good news is it’s all downhill going back out;) It is a beautiful trail. Saw squirrels and deer. Camped 3 days at the lake. Gorgeous week!!!!

Very dissapointed in this trail. Trecking up mostly on a gravel road was very difficult for me and the view was lacking due to trees and haze due to pollen and Controlled fires happening in the area. the Tower was locked so no view.

great view of the top. make sure to park where the closed gate for the 1st camping ground for the lake is. trail is pretty much all uphill. btw it's a 1hr drive on a mountain country non paved road from the main road, watch out city folks lol

I was not aware that you are able to drive all the way to the top where the lookout was of it wasn’t chained off. But once we figured that out and started walking it was great. It was an moderate walk, not that long and once you get to the lookout it’s amazing.

Hiked Thursday, 10/26/17: This has been my favorite hike from AllTrails. it was so pleasant and was able to hike three days before it closed for Winter. There always a beautiful view at the base across a small creek and a great view from the first landing of the tower at the top.

The top of the tower is chained off... you can only climb half way up the steps... decent view... would be a lot nicer if you could get to the top.... the road getting here takes like an hour.... bumpy forest road....

Nice little trail, but took the forest road back down from the tower because we ran into some hunters on the trail coming back. Not sure if this is allowed but didn't want to get shot.

Nice trail at Conasauga lake. There are a few right in the campground. The lake loop, songbird, and this trek up to the fire tower. Pretty straightforward. First half follows a trail up, then connects to a service road for the remainder. The hard part is getting in there, because the campground sits way back in the woods, and I mean waaaay back. Once you are there I don't know why you would not hike all the trails https://www.facebook.com/groups/JasonHikingPage/
