The trailhead can be reached from either the north, Blue Ridge, or the south, Dahlonega. From Blue Ridge, drive north on Appalachian Hwy./US-76. Turn right onto GA-60 at the light. Follow the signs for GA-60 for about 14 miles through Morganton to the trailhead. From Dahlonega at the intersection of S. Chestatee St. (US-19) and Morrison Moore Pkwy. (GA-9N/US-19/GA-60), drive north on Morrison Moore Pkwy. (GA-9N/US-19/GA-60) for 8 miles until US-19 turns off to the right. Continue on north on GA-60 for 22 miles to the trailhead. From either direction, GA-60 is very curvy.

I hiked/ran from Hwy 60 to bridge and on to Bryson Gap. I am not a strong trail runner but was able to run more of this trail than other mountain trails. Other than at the bridge I only saw one group of 4 on the trail. The trail is well marked, but between the bridge and Bryson Gap, I crossed two unmarked trails that appeared to be well kept and well traveled. I also saw a trail that appeared to head up John Dicks Mountain.

I hiked this trail 10/12/19 and definitely enjoyed being in the woods. The trail is easy to navigate and on the easy side of moderate. I parked at the main road because I drive a 2WD. I hiked to the bridge and didn’t see anyone until then. The bridge is awesome, but crowded. I followed one of the recorded loop paths that previous hikers have done. Half of the loop is on the dirt gravel road that leads to the bridge, eating dust and dodging traffic is not my thing. When I do this hike again I will stay in the woods.

Great hike! Recently hiked the Benton MacKaye Trail (also Duncan Ridge Trail for this portion) from where it crosses Hwy 60 (Morgantown Hwy) south to the Toccoa River. The trail was in great shape with NO downed trees on the trail. The first .92 of a mile is all uphill, but from that point to the river is easy going and basically runs along the ridge. At the river is an amazing suspension bridge. I've read elsewhere that at 260+ feet it is the longest suspension bridge in Georgia. This bridge alone is worth the trip. Rather that retrace my hike back to the trailhead, I took the Tooni Gap Rd (service road) to make this hike a loop hike rather than an out-n-back. The service road is dirt/crushed gravel and only slightly longer than the trail. See my track recording. Highly recommend this hike as one of the best in the state.
