Hidden Valley Ski Area is now closed. The lifts have been removed. What is left are fantastic runs for the backcountry enthusiasts. Rocky Mountain National Park has a visitor center and just past the visitor center is where you will need to pay an entrance fee. Hidden Valley ski area opened in 1955 and closed as a ski area in 1991. The lower area of the valley, below Trail Ridge Road is great for beginner and intermediate skiers/boarders. Above Trail Ridge road is where you find the expert runs. Trail Ridge Road is closed in the winter from roughly November to May or June.

Awesome trail! beautiful views of the mountains above and below. Very steep though, some spots were particularly hard to come down from. A cool perk about this trail is that I only saw two people on my whole adventure. it's relatively private and quiet in comparison to some other trails at this park.

Snow shoes needed for second half. Encountered a newborn elk cleaning itself on the trail and had to turn back.

The old ski area in RMNP, Hidden Valley has been turned into a picnic area, family walk, and headquarters for the Junior Ranger program. However, there is a nice trail beyond the family area. We did this as our second hike of the morning after completing the Tombstone Ridge section of the Ute Trail. Nice relaxing hike until we hit the trees and decided to turnaround as we couldn't really see anything but trees. If you're wanting to do just smaller hikes, filling in a shorter one as us, or have a picnic/hike combo, this is a very pleasant option.

Up and up and up. Once past the small loop it was private and quiet and got very steep.

The ski area is now closed, you can absolutely do some backcountry skiing and snowboarding and some of the area is still intact, the runs look pretty awesome still. As far as hiking it's a great place I've been several times with family and friends, and it's always so pleasant. There's not alot of traffic here so expect to have peace and quiet! you are wrapped in pines here there is a Brook with plenty of deer and elk to take pictures of.
