I would not consider this a strenuous hike (unless you're not used to the altitude), but it's a fantastic hike for beautiful views and solitude. The trailhead is at the treeline for Greenhorn and you circle the base of the peak. The Greenhorn peak is very rocky and steep, so it would take some scrambling to summit the peak. 20-ish miles of dirt/gravel road lead to the trailhead and it's wide enough for vehicles to pass and no major washouts. I was able to make it up with my 2006 Impala, however the roads at that time were washboarded practically the entire way so be prepared for a bumpy ride. Also, the last 2 miles are notably more rocky so be careful. I did end up with a flat tire at the top, but I'm chalking that up to bad luck. You could always park at the Blue Lakes and hike up to the trail head. Prepare for wind as it's an exposed mountain top, but the sun helps to keep that bearable. Lovely view of the ranges to the west and south.

Beautiful hike. Takes a couple of hours to drive up to it, but the views are amazing. My husband and I climbed up to the top. It was tough and very windy when we got up there. But a definite accomplishment!
