This was a beauuutiful trail! Fowler up to Rattlesnake Gulch Loop and back. Didn’t get too icy until Rattlesnake, but after that I’d recommend yaktrax at least. The way up wasn’t terrible, but I slid a lot on my way down, even with my ‘trax. The views are spectacular throughout this whole hike. It’s a very doable 7 miles. The Fowler trail is very mild. Most of the elevation gain happens once you get into the state park. Not too much foot traffic for a Wednesday afternoon, but I imagine the weekends and summers are insane. This’ll probably be a go-to winter hike for me.

Some of the best views I’ve seen on a foothills trail. Very strict about dogs, no leash = summons to court. Lots of protected habitat. Very cold in December, with location of the sun, most of the trail is in the shade. Very manicured trail.

Great hike. Shaded in parts. Fun to see climbers doing their thing. Great views at the top. Parking is limited.

Aesthetically, this was the first trail I’ve ever hiked that compares to RMNP; GORGEOUS!!!! Although, all of the elevation gain is done in about a mile and a half, so take twice as much food and water than usual, and you’ll be golden! Had a lot of shady areas! Also, I actually turned around at the look outs and ended up at about their advertised distance. I would guess this option would get you around 9 miles.

Fun hike from CR67 into Eldorado State Park. Definitely preferred this route to accessing it via the state park parking lots - we were able to get in more miles and it wasn't too busy for a Sunday. If I knew more about the area or had more time, I would've like to have explored the ridge above the overlook more. the Rattlesnake Gultch loop trail was an unremarkable stretch of this route.

Nice trail but busy the day we hiked it.

Beautiful hike. My dog and I saw a very large rattle snake near the trail, not far from the Continental Divide overlook. The snake did a good job of letting us know it was there and we were able to go around. Keep your eyes peeled, especially if you are with a dog.

Moderate use. Lots of loose rock/gravel = step carefully at times. Can be hot & sunny. Spots of shade. Rattlesnake Gulch is a bit up an up-hill thigh/calf burner. Continental Divide Overlook is great. Hotel ruins nice diversion.

Great trail. Started around 8:30a on a Sunday. Only 10 cars parked near gate. Entire hike was a bit more than 3 hours and 7 miles. Plenty of shade. Wide trails. Steady incline with great overlook at the end. Dog enjoyed as well. Would definitely return with visitors.

I love this trail, you get to see the amazing, courageous, and strong climbers and it hooks next to the creek! Bring water for your dog!!! Please especially if it’s a hot day! Short hairs too!

Ran this route today. Beautiful views but an extremely busy trail. I believe the trail is incorrectly listed as moderately trafficked — there was almost never a point where we weren’t directly interacting with another group, even getting to the trailhead at 7:15AM. Trail was only a tad muddy today after yesterday’s rain — wildflowers were in full force, better than I’ve ever seen them!

Hiked this today. Great trail with mixed terrain and beautiful scenery. Highly recommended.

Great easy trail. No snow currently but the end loop (.8 mile) is closed until June 15th. The continental divide lookout is great and has wonderful views.
