Great trial, can short cut ~4 miles off of the total hike and get way better views if you know where the right short cut is ;)

Backpacked for 3 days and 2 nights, totaling 24.7 miles. I completed the loop counterclockwise and would recommend this direction. As other people have stated, the second day is the most scenic. Day 1 and 3 are mostly spent in dense woods. Fist night I camped at Upper Camp Lake. While it was beautiful it was mighty windy. I would recommend camping at Camp Lake. The second night I camped about 3 miles from the trailhead. There are many spots in this area. The trail has many shallow stream crossings and there is plentiful water.

did it in 3 days 2 nights, stayed at upper camp lake and twin craters. saw 5 moose, some bighorn sheep, and plenty of marmots. overall very pretty trail, nice lakes, lots of wildlife. did some fishing too, had luck in upper camp and rawah 1 and 2, but twin craters might be a little over fished as we didn’t really have luck there but some chased a lure. Snow wasn’t a problem and there was some mud but wasn’t an issue. we managed to cross all the rivers without removing our shoes, some crossings over logs were a little sketchy though. Be prepared for a steep climb sometimes!

Be careful about your animals, my dog has more than 1000 bites, (we put bug spray on her). The bugs were HORRIBLE. The hike to lower camp lake was great. Once we got past the 4th mile, the mosquito, flies and other inspects exploded. The camping on the south western side of Camp lake was a bog, not of water, but of insects. I have hiked this trail before and it had 1/100th of the mosquitos. (We had bug spray, and used it almost every 20 minutes, It did nothing, the bugs bit through it anyways.

Real tough climb halfway in but very worth it. The woods themselves are beautiful. There are waterfalls, sheer cliff faces and wide open views the entire way.

Trail is clear all the way to Upper Camp Lake where the flowers are in full bloom. A bit boggy on the east side of Camp Lake where some trail improvements could be made. While there were about 3 groups camped at Camp Lake, we had Upper Camp Lake to ourselves.

At this time you lose the trail at 2-3 places. This app saved us. There was ankle deep marsh to go through. Trail otherwise is kept up extremely well. Worth it to go to Upper Camp Lake!

Fun trail, very wet and marshy when you get close to the first lake.

As of June 3rd, 2018, the Rawah ditch is still inundated with snow. I lost the trail more than a few times after the ditch, and had to turn back. I was post-holing all the way up to my thighs in parts, trying to push through, but then would have ended up losing the trail. If you've got snowshoes and a GPS, you should be alright. Otherwise, you may want to wait a couple weeks. If you want to actually see what it looks like right now, here's a video: https://youtu.be/reocVDjvY_c

Agree with below, only rated hard because of distance. The lakes are beautiful and well worth it. I spent a decent amount of the trip up attempting to keep my boots dry only to get close to the lower lake and drench them. Wasn't so bad! There is actually a small loop that can extend the trip about 1.5 miles that is worth taking. On the return trip it's about 2.5 miles from upper Camp lake. Poudre Valley Wilderness Volunteers have a great explanation and a great website in general. http://www.pwv.org/trails/rawah-wilderness/63-camp-lake-trail

This hike is rated as hard because of its distance. There is one tough incline section between the fork and the Rawah Ditch. Other than that, the inclines are very moderate. In fact a stretch of nearly 3 miles is perfectly level following the ditch at the top of the hill. The last few miles are pretty hard because they are a moderate incline and you're already tired and your brain is telling you that you'll have to go all the way down again. In late June, the sections near treeline were complete swamps. Actually walking through standing water. I had to take my shoes off to dry while I ate lunch. But it is a spectacularly beautiful hike. The vegetation is so lush, waterfalls everywhere, aspen trees and great views of the peaks across the valley once you get above 10k. The wilderness experience here is fantastic too. It was so quiet and solitary. Here is a glimpse of how the hike is in late June: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bbh0NLdjiWA&t=13s
