1.2 miles each way. Easy to moderate, with up and downhill slopes each way. Lots of wildlife, tree cover and birdlife. Bug spray a must. Trail narrow in areas. Poison oak present. Very beautiful trail.

Beautiful trail and a nice change from the usual San Diego scenery. There's a pretty good incline coming up from the Doane Pond. Lot's of wildlife and lots of shade but a little overgrown. would be a five star if it wasn't overgrown.

I've done this trail a few times along with several of the other nearby ones. It's a nice change of scenery on Palomar Mountain from the desert below. It's a shame Scott's Cabin has not survived, but the apple orchard still being cultivated is really neat.

This trail was literally the most beautiful thing ever! The weather was rainy and foggy when I went which made the adventure much more fun! We saw a deer. It was just lovely I literally need say no more. The trails are a little hard to find as the signs become distant so definitely take a map and activate the GPS on this app so you don’t get lost.

Peaceful trail with lots of trees surrounding you and cute fluffy squirrels and the sound of nature and the birds is soooo nice! I wish the actual cabin was there though ! Just a pile of logs there once you get to “Scott’s cabin” Overall great experience ! It’s at the state park so for all day it’s 10$ cash. Make sure to bring snacks and water there’s a few other trials around it but it’s really nice ethier way. You’ll catch a lot of cute wild birds surrounding you, maybe even deers ! so I recommend going. Make sure to check out all the other trails too and I promise you’ll love it. Make sure to Just enjoy the peaceful sound of nature and everything around you.

Trail needs some attention. Starting from Doane Pond and heading up there is a large tree across the trail, which appears to have been there a while. Hiking with the kids this was a challenge. This is the section with most of the elevation gain, and drop on the way out (if you choose to return this way). Some of the erosion controls built into the trail are loose or are partially washed out, giving the impression that this trail has not seen maintenance in some time. The upper portion of the trail is quite overgrown and rutted. Once you arrive at the Scotts Cabin Site, you will be greeted by a random pile of old logs, so set your expectations accordingly.

Much of the trail was overgrown near the upper elevations.

Nice hike. We started on the Cedar Trail to Scotts Cabin then took this down to Doane Pond back up Thunder Spring trail doing a sort of loop. The "Scotts Cabin" is just a pile of logs but marked so you know you reached it. Easy down hill, nice scenery.

This was actually a mixed trail hike. Sort of customized. Used Weir trailhead at the state campground, went to the weir, there was some poodle dog bush toward the beginning. Came half way back then climbed Baptist trail, this was kind of steep. Crossed the road then went to Scotts cabin trail, to a descent at the fork to Doane pond and back to the campground. It was about a 3.5 mile hike. Highly recommended. Easy to moderate.

Loved it! Did this hike twice once in June and the other in July-lots of shade so heat was not in issue. Lots of bugs! Beautiful area!! Will return again and again.

A beautiful hike through very old oak trees and incense cedars. Nicely shaded, tons of deer, wild turkey, woodpeckers and red hawks. Mosquitos in warmer weather, so bring bug spray. See boulders with mortar holes (think mortar and pestle) created 600 yrs ago by Leusenio indians, grinding acorns. Such a beautiful and peaceful place to hike. Bring water and sensible hiking footwear.

Easy stroll.i like how shady it is and the trees are pretty. Just follow the path and its easy enough. The trees ate full of woodpecker acorns, kinda cool picture to take.

We go hiking in Palomar quite often. Hike is easy. Also very easy to get it confused with the other three trails along the way. This is the only trail we hiked in Palomar we're we actually saw something living besides the birds and some scared rabbits.

This hike was a nice one. I was really surprised to find that Scott's cabin is only an area with a bunch of logs, nothing that resembles a cabin in any way. The hike has an incline that would not be recommended for beginners, but if you're up for a challenge, why not?! The best part of this hike was witnessing a family of deer trotting away just a few feet before us--that was quite amazing!

It really is just a bunch of logs don't expect a cabin or anything resembling one. The first part of the trail is all up hill and then tapers off a bit and becomes easier. We saw several deer, birds, and squirrels everywhere. You also get some great views of the mountain.

First off, Scott's Cabin itself is a bunch of logs laying on the ground and each other. And the hike up the mountain goes up, just up, there aren't many switch backs to ease the initial ascent. Beyond that this was a lovely trail with a view of orange turned ferns on a sloping hillside, a clean cut area and then some logs at Scott's Cabin to sit on. On the way back down, we came back down the same way we went up, we say a small group of deer along the trail!
