Parking Notice: The start of this trail is at a small dirt public turn out that can accommodate up to 4 cars. Do not drive to the end of the road as there is little room to turn around. It is a very short walk up the road to the trailhead. Hike through lush wooded, fern covered canyons. Pass waterfalls and enjoy stunning SF Bay Vistas. This is a great trail to hike or run, even during or after rainfalls. For longer hike, park near Dolliver Park on Madrone Road. Walk a few blocks to Foley - take a left. Look for stairs after the third house on the left. Take a right at top of stairs and follow the narrow road until the end. There is a trail head sign for Lower Baltimore Canyon trail. Continue approx. one mile to a wooden bridge, where the Upper Baltimore Canyon trail begins. Continue .5-.75 and keep an eye out for the trail going up hill to the right. Cross the small creek and head up Lady Bug Trail to King Mt. Loop. At junction, continue straight, then go left to Wilson Trail. Cross a fire road. Turn right, heading down gravel path. For shorter hike, go left on King Mt. Loop to Dawn Falls or continue past gate on Ridgecrest Rd. Take left at Evergreen Dr. Left on Crown Rd. Becomes Blithedale Summit Fire Rd. Look for Dawn Falls Creek Trail on left just before suspension pipe.

Beautiful trail that offers either an easy flat walk-about or a bit of elevation to raise your heart rate if you are seeking an absolutely stunning view of Marin. Each new turn offered a differing view - each more gorgeous than the last, including the SF skyline and MT Tam. Plus there was a plethora of friendly people and dogs to meet! Always a plus.

Part of trail is off leash for dogs. It’s super busy. Can be pretty small trail especially with dogs, kids etc.

Beautiful redwood forest. Love this hike! After reading reviews about the way down being rather dangerous, I chose to go clockwise, taking a left at the first intersection. So glad I did! While scrambling up tree roots and hanging onto trees is kinda fun on a climb upwards, I imagine it to be rather scary on the way down. Once up on the fire road, it’s mainly flat with peekaboo views of the bay. But you don’t need the views. If you’re on this hike, you’re here to be in the woods. And it’s stunning!

Beautiful trees changing color for fall and the smell of eucalyptus simply can’t be beat.

Please note that the street plan given in the app is completely wrong. Madrone ave connects to Magnolia ave north of Piedmont and is the most direct access route to the falls trail. This caused me no end of confusion. As for the access indications given in the description (left on Foley, stairs after the third house etc. )...I never found the stairs! Hence plan B, the trailhead at the end of Madrone. But I had to park a half-mile from there.

Great dog hike!

There’s one downhill portion at the end of the loop part that was slippery/steep. Having proper hiking shoes with traction is helpful. A few fallen trees that you had to maneuver around as well. Overall very enjoyable with a lovely shade covering.

Beautiful area and trail. Great trail for dogs. Plenty of shade. Plenty of people but not overcrowded on a Saturday.

Gorgeous! A ton of shade which is great for summer hikes. There was almost no water left by this time, but still totally worth the drive to Marin. didn't bring the dogs but I would bring mine back. The trail can get narrow and steep at times so consider that before bringing pups in the heat.

Pretty easy hike, although the decline was a little hard to do with a dog on a leash since it got pretty steep. All around really nice though and perfect if you’re looking for something under two hours that isn’t too difficult. Watch out for poison oak though.

Absolutely loved this trail. Most of the hike takes place on a comfortable and wide paved fire road. There many so many beautiful different kinds of trees and wildflowers combined with a creek blanketed in ferns. Had a wonderful time watching the earth move around as a little creature - that I never actually saw - tunneled under the underbrush, audibly breaking roots apart while unearthing worms and beetles in the process. During the first part of the hike before getting to the loop I was lost daydreaming of living in this beautiful area while admiring the houses on the other side of the creek bed. This hike surprised me and had my heart working overtime as it suddenly went straight up a nice and closely pathed switchback. It was very challenging for me, though admittedly I’m not as active or fit as most who do these parts of the hike. Of course what goes up must come down, straight down in fact, a rocky-root filled decline where I tripped and slid and despite my slow and careful best efforts, I fell three times. Being prepared with hiking shoes and poles probably would’ve prevented this. I would recommend starting off the beginning of the loop by walking up the part that I haphazardly went down as climbing it would’ve been easier. All of my joints and muscles were used on this hike! Also, my recording logged 6 miles rather than the stated 4.2. *Lots of happy unleashed dogs, so beware if you don’t like that or have a reactive dog.

Lots of shade throughout the hike. Beautifully green and was amazed that there were redwood trees. My pitbull also enjoyed this hike very much.

Great hike for someone with dogs! It’s mostly covered by trees and redwoods scattered all throughout the trail. A wonderful little stream meandering through most of the trail and in light of the recent rains, there was actually quite a bit of water running across the falls! The trail itself was great, mostly dirt, with some steps, rocky areas, and a few washouts which were no doubt a result of all the rains lately, but overall pretty easy to moderate I would say. Be advised, this trail is more like 5.2 miles (tracked with Strava) round trip from where AllTrails says it starts and parking is SUPER limited. We didn’t really know what to expect with parking, but we arrived around 10am on a Saturday at the trailhead and got super lucky to snag the final spot. We did see quite a few people on the trail and it was quite clear that there are other areas where you could park and pick up the trail from.

After moving down to LA, I was really missing the redwoods. So during a visit back to the bay I couldn’t pass the chance to check out this lil trek through some beautiful roughage.
